Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team will play host to the No. 2-ranked Central Missouri Jennies before hitting the halfway point of the season with a road match at Missouri Southern. The Lady Blues (3-4-2, 3-3-1 MIAA) are coming off an 0-1-1 week with a double overtime tie with No. 22-ranked Truman before falling 2-1 at Southwest Baptist. Washburn fell in the first meeting with Missouri Southern this season 2-0 in Topeka on Sept. 9.
About Central Missouri
Jennies notes: The Jennies are 9-0-0 and 7-0-0 on the season entering Thursday night's match with the Lady Blues. They are ranked No. 2 in the latest NSCAA top 25 coaches poll. The Jennies have won their last 16 consecutive matches dating back to Oct. 17, 2009 while winning seven straight road matches during that stretch.
About the coach: Head Coach Lewis Theobald enters his fourth season as the head coach at UCM. He has compiled a 50-13-8 record at the helm of the Jennies. He was the first assistant at Division I Indiana State, where he was the lead recruiter before coming to UCM. He is a 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas.
About the Jennies: The Jennies have won their last 16 matches dating back to last season. This season the Jennies have outscored their opponents 25 to 7 and outshot their foes 167 to 41 adding 73 corner kicks to their opponents' 17. Alyssa Rhodes leads the Jennies with five goals this season for 11 points. Kayla Shain also has 11 points scoring four goals with a team-tying-high three assists. In net, Brooke Cooley has a 0.63 goal against average and a 7-0-0 record with three shutouts with 14 saves.

Last meeting with Central Missouri: Sept. 24, 2009 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn's
Brittany Tracz's first half goal at the 14:13 mark of the match was the game-winner in the Lady Blues' 1-0 win over Central Missouri. The win snapped a three-match winning streak by the Jennies in the victory. Tracz's goal came off a scramble infront of the net passed Central's Lauren Bamvakais into the lower left hand corner of the net. The game-winner was Tracz's first of the season and her first career match-winning goal in a Lady Blues uniform.
Washburn's goalkeeper
Ashley Klone picked up the shutout win with eight saves while facing 15 Central Missouri shots. The shutout was Klone's first of the season and the ninth of her career.
The Lady Blues were outshot 15 to seven, including a 10 to 1 advantage in the second half as the Jennies were going with the win into the north end of Yager Stadium. Central Missouri also attempted 11 corner kicks while holding the Lady Blues without a corner kick opportunity. The Jennies also committed 15 fouls compared to 12 for Washburn.
Angela Wiseman had two shots to lead Washburn. Cara Hennahane had three shots to lead the Jennies and Sharaya Sidebottom had two shots on goal along with Kayla Shain to lead Central Missouri.
Last time out for Central Missouri: Oct. 2, 2010 - The third ranked Central Missouri Jennies soccer team remained flawless Saturday, taking a 1-0 victory over No. 22 Truman State at the UCM South Recreation Complex. The Jennies (9-0, 7-0 MIAA) are seven points up in the conference standings, as the second place and defending MIAA champions Truman State (5-2-2, 4-1-2 MIAA) have 14 points. This game marks the second time that the Jennies have beaten TSU in back-to-back contests, with all four of those victories coming at home and under Head Coach Lewis Theobald. The last time that this happened was in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Central Missouri has now won 20 consecutive home games, dating back to August of 2008, and 16 contests in a row. They are both program records and the 16 wins in a row is a conference mark.
The Bulldogs got called for a foul inside the box at the 42nd minute, which gave UCM its first penalty kick of the season. Junior midfielder Alyssa Rhodes lined up the ball and shot it to the back right corner of the net, just out of reach of the TSU goalie. It is Rhodes' team-high fifth goal of the season.
Freshman net minder Brooke Cooley played the whole game, saving two shots. She also recorded her third shutout of the season.
The Jennies outshot Truman State 20-3 and 7-1 in corner kicks.
About Missouri Southern
Missouri Southern notes: The Lions are 3-4-2 and 3-2-2 in MIAA play entering a Thursday night match with Southwest Baptist. They are coming off a 1-0 win at Northwest Missouri on Oct. 2.
About the coach: Former Lion goalkeeper Alese Woolard is in her first season as the Lions head coach compiling a 3-4-2 record after serving the last four as an assistant coach. She also played softball at Missouri Southern graduating from Missouri Southern in 2005 with a degree in Unified Science in Secondary Education and just finished her Master of Education in Workforce Development Education with an emphasis in adult education from Arkansas.
About the Lions: The Lions are 3-4-2 and 3-2-2 in MIAA play entering a Thursday night match with Southwest Baptist. They have outscored their opponents 9 to 8 this season. Danai Noftz leads the team with three goals and six points. Five different players have recorded assists this season. Randi Russell has allowed seven goals this season with 34 saves and an .829 save percentage with a 0.77 goal against average.

Last meeting with Missouri Southern: Sept. 9, 2010 -- TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team fell 2-0 in their MIAA opener to Missouri Southern on Thursday night in Yager Stadium. Washburn will be back in action on Saturday at home when they will play host to Incarnate Word at 1 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, Missouri Southern jumped on the board first in the 54th minute on an unassisted goal by Lindsay Altman from just outside the right hand corner of the penalty box. The Lions added the other score of the match in the 72nd minute on a shot from inside 15 yards out on an assist from Kelly White.
The win snapped an eight-game winless streak for the Lions recording their first win since Sept. 30, 2006 in Joplin in a 1-0 overtime match.
Washburn and Missouri Southern each had one shot in the first half with the Lions outshooting the Lady Blues 8 to 6. Washburn also had an advantage in corner kicks leading 4 to 2. Missouri Southern had six shots on goal compared to one for Washburn.
Lauren Henry and
Lindsey Lambert each had two shot attempts with Lambert recording the lone shot on goal for Washburn.
Last time out for Missouri Southern: Oct. 2, 2010 -- Maryville, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions ended their two game road swing in MIAA play by defeating Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Southern got its scoring from junior midfielder Michelle Dimza as she went 2-for-2 scoring both goals in the first half. The first Lions goal was scored off of a rebound at the 32:04 mark and Dimza scored her second goal of the match off of a header from sophomore midfielder Corinne Tebbs. Junior goalkeeper Randi Russell recorded eight saves in shutting out her opponent for the third time this season.

Oct. 2, 2010 -- BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell 2-1 at Southwest Baptist in soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Bolivar. Rachel Hansen scored her second goal of the season unassisted in the 55th minute hooking the ball into the lower right hand corner of the net. Washburn outshot the Bearcats 9 to 3 in the second half and 14 to 12 in the match.
