Lady Blues Think Pink for SBU . . .
The No. 13-ranked Washburn Lady Blues finish up their three-game homestand against Southwest Baptist in the “Think Pink” game on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. in Lee Arena.
Washburn will wear pink uniforms as they participate in the WBCA Pink Zone to raise breast cancer awareness. All Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
The Lady Blues are coming off a 66-54 OT win over Central Missouri on Wednesday night, while Southwest Baptist fell 103-90 at Emporia State.

The Lady Blues game will be broadcast live on Country Legends 106.9 KTPK with Mark Elliott providing the play-by-play and

The Coaches . . .
Washburn head coach
Ron McHenry has posted a 260-52 (.833) overall record, including a 141-37 (.792) record in the MIAA with five MIAA regular season championships and the 2005 NCAA National Championship. McHenry has also led the Lady Blues to five MIAA Postseason Tournament titles including five of the seven played in Kansas City. McHenry has the highest winning percentage (.833) in MIAA history of coaches who have at least 200 wins and the highest among all active head coaches in NCAA-II.
He was named the Lady Blues head coach prior to the 2000-01 season. He leads the country among active women's NCAA Division II Coaches in winning percentage. McHenry was named the MIAA's Coach of the Year in 2005 and in 2006 and the Division II Bulletin National Coach of the Year in 2005. (complete bio on page 6 of notes.)
Southwest Baptist head coach J.C. Carter, is in his second season leading the Bearcats. SBU is 6-16 overall and 4-11 in MIAA play this season bringing Carter's career record to 14-36. The Bearcats were 8-20 a year ago, including 5-15 in the MIAA.

Feb. 10, 2010 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 13-ranked Washburn Lady Blues rallied from five down in the final two minutes to force overtime then ran away from Central Missouri in the extra period for a 66-54 win on Wednesday night in Lee Arena. Washburn is back in action on Saturday night against Southwest Baptist in the “Think Pink” game at 5:30. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
The Lady Blues (19-3, 13-3 MIAA) struggled out of the gates falling behind 7-2 before rallying to take a 13-11 lead midway through the opening half. An 8-0 run by UCM (12-10, 8-7 MIAA) gave the Jennies a 19-13 lead with 5:42 to play. Washburn responded with a 10-0 run of their own to take a four-point lead and WU went into the half with a 27-22 lead.
The Jennies quickly tied the game out of the gate in the second half and took a four-point lead with just under 15 minutes to play. The Lady Blues tied the game, but UCM came right back and took their largest lead of the game at 42-36 with 7:54 to play in regulation. The lead was five at 50-45 with 1:58 remaining, but
Rose Hammond scored a traditional three-point play, then tied the game with a layup with 1:12 to play. Neither team was able to score in their final possession and the game went to overtime.
Hope Gregory nailed a three to start the extra period and added another with with just over three minutes left to give WU a 56-50 lead. Gregory added a free throw before
Brette Ulsaker drained one from downtown and the Lady Blues led by 10 at 60-50 with 2:04 left in overtime. Washburn closed out the game hitting 7-of-9 from the foul line for the 12-point win.
Gregory scored nine of her career-high 22 points in the extra period. She added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Dayna Rodriguez recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Hammond had 11 points and added six boards and tied her career-high with six assists.
Rebecca Roberts was the only Jennie in double-figures with 22. Danielle Shows had 11 rebounds.
The Lady Blues shot 36 percent for the game, 21-of-59, but were 3-of-5 in overtime and 3-of-3 from behind the arc. WU held UCM to 30 percent from the floor, 21-of-70 and 2-of-10 in the extra period. Washburn also out-rebounded the Jennies 49-39.
The NCAA released its new regional rankings before the game and Washburn moved up one spot to No. 3 behind West Texas A&M and Emporia State.

Washburn/Southwest Baptist Series Notes . . .
Washburn leads the overall series with Southwest Baptist 28-11. The Lady Blues won both games last season and have won four straight overall. Washburn has won 19 of the past 20 meetings.
About Southwest Baptist . . .
The Bearcats come in to the contest at 6-16 overall and 4-11 in the MIAA after a 103-90 loss at Emporia State on Wednesday night. SBU had won three straight before that game, but lost seven in-a-row before the winning streak.
Rachel Graves leads three Bearcats averaging in double figures with 13.4 points per game. Courtney Heady drops in 11.3 per contest, while Ashleigh Gallio notches 10.4 per outing.
Jasmine Sanford leads the team in rebounding at 4.9 per game, while Whitney Malone pulls down 3.4 boards per outing.
Southwest Baptist is averaging 66.4 points per game, but giving up 73.2. The Bearcats are shooting 41 percent from the floor, while their opponents shoot 45 percent, including 38 percent from behind the three-point line. SBU is also out-rebounded by almost seven boards per game (29.8-36.3).

Jan. 5, 2010 - BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The sixth-ranked Lady Blues tied a school record with 15 three-point field goals and routed Southwest Baptist 88-67 on Tuesday night in Bolivar. Washburn returns home on Saturday night to host Missouri Southern at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Blues (13-0, 7-0 MIAA) scored the first eight points of the game, six from
Hope Gregory, and never trailed en route to their 13th win of the season. Washburn increased the lead to 14-2 before Southwest Baptist (3-10, 1-5 MIAA) went on a 12-4 run to close to within 18-14 with just under eight minutes gone by. Washburn closed the first half on an 24-12 run, however, and lead 42-26 at the break.
Amanda Fessenden scored 12 of her career-high 20 points in the first half on four 3FGs.
The lead was 15 with 17:26 to play when the Lady Blues went on an 18-8 run to open a 25-point advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining. The Bearcats got back to within 14 points, but Washburn finished the game on a 14-7 run for the final 21-point margin.
Fessenden led six Washburn players in double figures with her career-high 20, including six three-pointers.
Dayna Rodriguez had 16 points,
Laura Kinderknecht had a career-high 12, while Gregory had 11 and six rebounds.
Stevi Schultz and
Brette Ulsaker each had 10 points.
The Lady Blues shot 58 percent for the game, 33-of-57, including the school-record tying 15 threes on 56 percent shooting from behind the arc.
Chasity Prince led SBU with 12 points, while Rachel Graves and Courtney Heady had 11 and 10, respectively.
The Bearcats shot 44 percent from the field, 23-of-48, including 11-of-26 from three-point range.

In their 26th season in Lee Arena, the Lady Blues are 324-59 (.846) overall at home. Washburn won their 300th game against Emporia State on Feb. 23, 2008.
The Lady Blues have lost two games at home in the same season for the first time since McHenry's first season in 2000-01.
The longest winning streak was 44 games from Dec. 1, 1990 to March 20, 1993.
The Lady Blues have won 45 straight regular season non-conference games in Lee Arena. The last home loss to a non-conference team in the regular season was to Missouri-St. Louis in a 59-51 setback on Dec. 30, 2000.

The Lady Blues will take part in the WBCA Pink Zone promotion to help promote breast cancer awareness. Saturday's game against Southwest Baptist has been designated the “Think Pink” game and fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support. The Lady Blues will wear pink uniforms and raffles will take place to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Items up to win include basketballs and t-shirts autographed by the Lady Blues.
Washburn in the National Poll . . .
The Lady Blues moved up two spots to No. 13 in the latest USA Today/ESPN WBCA Coaches Poll. Emporia State is the only other MIAA team ranked. The Lady Hornets stayed put at No. 5 in the rankings.
The Lady Blues were No. 13 in the final USA Today/ESPN Top 25 WBCA Coaches Poll of the 2009 season. Overall, Washburn has received votes in the last 130 consecutive polls and has been in the top 25 in 114 consecutive polls, the longest current streak in NCAA-II.
