Tish Williams became the MIAA's career all-time home run leader connecting on her 54th in a double header sweep over Ottawa as Washburn took game one 5-4 while winning the nightcap 12-4 in six innings. Washburn will be in action this weekend at the MIAA Crossover in Warrensburg, Mo.
In the opener, the Lady Blues fell behind 1-0 in the fourth inning after Ottawa scored a solo run taking the early lead, but the Lady Blues tied it in the fourth inning on an RBI single by
Alex Zordel. Neither team would score again until Williams' walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh - a three-run shot, which tied the MIAA career record of 52 held by Emporia State's Megan Davison, who played for the Hornets from 2004-07.
Kayla Long improved to 5-5 on the season while striking out a career high 13 walking only one in the complete game win.
In the second game, Washburn fell behind after the top half of the first inning as the Lady Braves scored four runs chasing starter
Samantha Farris. Williams' recorded breaker came in the bottom of the first on a 2-2 count to left field.
Lauren Himpel homered in the inning in Washburn's first at bat of the game for her second home run of the season. Washburn added solo home runs in the second on a
Lauren Mersman home run, the first of her career and one more in the third on
Ashley Podschun's second long ball on the season. In the fourth inning, Williams added her fifth home run of the season and her third on the afternoon giving her 54 for her Washburn career, which scored Mersman who reached on an infield single. In the fifth inning, Washburn added two more runs on a
Lauren Himpel single to left scoring
Lindsey Moore who reached on a double to left field. Washburn ended the game by scoring four in the bottom of the sixth with a single by
Nicole Perkuhn scoring Moore.
Jacque Horejsi and Moore picked up solo RBI in the inning.
Kelsie Novotny entered the game in relief and pitched five shutout innings allowing two hits while striking out six with no walks.
Williams finished the day 3 for 6 with four runs scored and 6 RBI with the three home runs and 12 total bases while adding to her Lady Blues career record and topping the MIAA's career home run records.
