Washburn softball team splits a pair of games at the Lady Buff Invitational

CANYON, Texas -- The Ichabods took the third place game of the Lady Buff Classic hosted by West Texas A&M by topping Eastern New Mexico 7-4. The Lady Blues lost their first game of the day to ENMU 7-5. Washburn will take on West Texas A&M in a doubleheader on Sunday before returning to Topeka.

ame 1 - Eastern New Mexico 7, Washburn 5

The Lady Blues took a 5-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning but could not make it stand as Eastern New Mexico scored five runs on four hits in the frame to take a 7-5 win over Washburn. The Lady Blues' Lindsey Himpel scored a run by herself in the first after recording a single to right, she stole second and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher. In the second inning Alex Zordel hit the first of her two home runs in the game - her second homer came in a three-run six inning capped with 2 RBI by Tish Williams.

Game 2 - Washburn 6, Eastern New Mexico 4
Alex Zordel hit her third home run of the afternoon caping a four-run sixth inning in a 6-4 win over Eastern New Mexico. Washburn scored solo runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to rally after ENMU took a 4-2 lead after putting up four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Washburn added one in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Ashley Podschun and then four in the sixth to take the 7-4 win. Kelsie Novotny picked up her first collegiate win coming in the game in relief pitching two innings.
