WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell in a pair of 3-2 games in MIAA play at Central Missouri including a walk off home run in the second game by the Jennies. The Lady Blues (23-21, 7-10 MIAA) will look to snap their four-game losing streak at Fort Hays State on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season in a single game against Nebraska-Omaha in Topeka on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In the opener, Central Missouri (22-22, 8-7 MIAA) scored all three of its runs in the first inning on a three-run triple by Ashlea Bengtson.The Lady Blues were held scoreless until the sixth inning when
Marissa Martin connected on a 2 RBI single to center scoring
Lauren Himpel who led of the inning with a double and
Britny Cushing who walked in the inning. The Lady Blues finished the game with the bases loaded sealing the 3-2 loss.
Kayla Long (10-14) took the loss allowing the three earned runs.
Lindsey Moore went 2 for 3 in the game. Washburn left nine runners on base while the Jennies stranded five. Each team had seven hits.
In the nightcap, the Lady Blues jumped out to a 1-0 lead after scoring a solo run in the top of second after
Lauren Himpel led off the inning with a single and later scored on a single by
Nicole Perkuhn. The Jennies took advantage of a Washburn error in the bottom of the second inning allowing an unearned run to tie the game. Neither team would score Jennies broke the deadlock with a home run by Nicole Norberg to centerfield pushing the Jennies up 2-1. Washburn tied the score in the to of the seventh on a double down the left field line by
Lindsey Moore, her second of the game, which scored Lauren Himipel. However the Jennies' Jessica Marble led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run clinching the 3-2 win. Long (10-15) pitching her second game of the day allowed two earned runs while striking out two.
Lauren Himpel and Moore each had two hits for the Lady Blues.
