TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell in a single game with No. 23-ranked Nebraska-Omaha 7-2 at the Washburn Softball Complex in the regular season finale on Sunday. The win was the 25th in a row for the Mavericks, who clinched at least a share of the MIAA crown with the win. The Lady Blues (24-24, 8-12 MIAA) will now have to wait until other games are completed in the MIAA to discover their postseason future.

In a game originally scheduled as the second game of a doubleheader on April 3, the Mavericks (45-9, 18-2 MIAA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning as both runs were unearned. On the afternoon, five of the seven runs scored by UNO were unearned against Washburn's starting pitcher Kayla Long (11-16) who took the loss recording four strikeouts.

UNO added two more in the second inning, this time both coming with two outs on a two-out single by Julia Krejci. UNO added a solo run in the fourth inning on a double by Treightin Yates scoring Katelyn Hinton.

Washburn would score its only two runs in the fifth inning as Ashley Podschun recorded a 2 RBI single scoring Tish Williams who walked and Marissa Martin who reached on an error.

UNO scored two more unearned runs in the top of the seventh pushing the lead to 7-2. The Lady Blues had a pair of runners on after back to back hits by Martin and Williams, but a double play erased the Washburn threat as Maverick pitcher Beth Haley improved to 20-2 on the season.

Podschun finished the game 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Jacque Horejsi was 2 for 3. Washburn left seven runners on base while the Mavericks stranded six while also out hitting Washburn 8 to 7.

The top eight teams reach the MIAA postseason tournament and Washburn has an 8-12 record. Missouri Southern also has an 8-12 MIAA record leaving both teams tied for the eighth spot. Northwest Missouri still has four games to play in conference action as they have a 7-9 conference record with one more game against Central Missouri later on Sunday afternoon. There has been no date announced for the make up games with Truman or for one more game with Missouri Western.
