LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Washburn sophomore outfielder
Makenzie Sais, coming off first-team all-region honors from both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, has added Third Team All-America honors from the NFCA as well as the NFCA's New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award winner as the top base runner in the NCAA DII ranks. Sais is the first Ichabod in program history to win the Golden Shoe Award and she is the fifth Ichabod to receive All-America honors from the NFCA.
Sais led the NCAA DII softball division in stolen bases with an MIAA and school record 69 this season en route to first-team all-MIAA honors. Sais also led the Ichabods with a .421 batting average with 75 hits and 48 runs scored and a .507 on base percentage. She was also selected as a MIAA Gold Glove pick by the league coaches. Sais also topped the NCAA DII charts averaging 1.25 steals per game and stole a season-high four bases against Montana State Billings and Southeastern Oklahoma earlier this season. At the plate, Sais led the .507 on-base percentage starting all 55 games for the Ichabods in center field.
The NFCA All-America teams are voted on by the Association's All-America Committees. In Division II, the committee is comprised of one member head coach from each of the NCAA's eight regions. All student-athletes who were nominated by a member head coach and voted to the first- or second-team All-Region squads were eligible for All-America consideration.
