Lady Blues push #22 Bulldogs to 1-1 double overtime tie

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues scored first and held the No. 22-ranked Truman Bulldogs 1-1 in double overtime tie Thursday night in Yager Stadium. Washburn will be back in action Saturday at Southwest Baptist.

The Lady Blues (3-3-2, 3-2-1 MIAA) drew first blood in the 31st minute as Megan Buckley scored her first collegiate goal from 43 yards out past Truman's Jayne Grisham into the upper right hand corner of the net. However Truman's Megan Buri netted her second goal of the season recording the equalizer in the 38th minute from 30 yards out as the teams would enter the break tied at 1-1.

Neither team would score the remainder of the regulation period as the Bulldogs continued to pressure the Lady Blues in the second half outshooting Washburn 15 to 0 in the second half. In the first extra frame, the Bulldogs outshot the Lady Blues 3 to 1 while adding another shot in the second overtime period.

The Lady Blues Ashley Klone recorded 10 saves in net for Washburn while facing a total of 27 shots allowing the first half goal. Buckley had two shots and the lone shot on goal for the Lady Blues. Olivia Hayes paced the Bulldog offense with seven shots overall with three on goal. Buri recorded six shots with four on goal.

The Lady Blues' record in overtime matches moved to 8-12-4 overall and to 1-0-1 while playing the No. 22-ranked team in the NSCAA top 25 poll.
