The Washburn Ichabods will look to return to their winning ways when they return home to face Pittsburg State in Lee Arena on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Ichabods (7-5, 4-4 MIAA) are coming off a 90-73 loss at Missouri Southern and the Gorillas (9-3, 5-3 MIAA) topped Emporia State last time out 80-61 at home. The Ichabods are 6-1 in Lee Arena this season and the Gorillas are 2-2 away from Pittsburg this year.

Bob Chipman is in his 32nd season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. For 25 years now Chipman has been the winningest coach in school history and in 2006-07 he became the second winningest coach as a member of the MIAA. Chipman is 685-283 (.710) overall and he has 443 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season. In home games, Chipman has amassed a 401-76 (.840) record going 347-64 in Lee Arena and 54-12 in Whiting Fieldhouse. Chipman is 11th amongst all NCAA II coaches in winning percentage who have coached at least 10 seasons. Among that group, he is second in all-time coaching victories in active coaches in career victories. Among all coaches who have at least 10 years experience in DII, he is 25th in winning percentage and seventh in victories. He is the third active winningest coach in NCAA Division II and 10th in winning percentage and his 685 coaching wins is 28th all-time among all NCAA coaches at all levels. At Washburn he has led the Ichabods to 11 conference regular season titles (9 MIAA), 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and the 1987 NAIA National Championship. Chipman is 45-16 against Pittsburg State.
Pittsburg State's Kevin Muff is in his first season leading the Gorillas. Muff (Kansas State, '86) became the Gorillas' 14th all-time head coach on Apr. 5, 2010, after spending 12 seasons at Cloud County Community College, where he helped the Thunderbirds to an average of 21 wins in each of the last five seasons. He is 9-3 overall and has not faced Washburn.

(Jan. 8, 2011) - JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods jumped out to a 10-point lead at Missouri Southern but let the lead slip in a 90-73 loss to the Lions.
The Ichbods an early lead at 27-17 on a lay up by
De'Andre Washington, who led the Ichabods with 22 points hitting 7 of 13 shots including 4 of 8 3-pointers on the afternoon. From that lead the Lions would go on a 14-0 run taking a 31-27 lead and would go into the locker room with a 46-40 advantage. Washburn shot a blistering 64 percent from the field in the first half hitting 16 of 25 attempts from the field and 5 of 12 from 3-point range.
In the second half the Ichabods trimmed the lead back to six on a 3-pointer by
Jeff Reid with 16:36 remaining but they would get no closer as the Lions built a lead as many as 20 in the second half with 8:01 remaining.
Following Washington's 22 points,
Logan Stutz had 20 on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Skyler Bowlin had 30 points to lead the Lions as he was 16 of 17 from the free throw line. As a team the Ichabods were 12 of 19 and the Lions attempted 43 free throws compared to 19 for the Ichabods hitting 12.
The Ichabods were 26 of 55 from the field shooting 47 percent from the field while the Lions finished 27 of 52 for a 52 percent mark.
Series history with Pittsburg State . . .
Wednesday's meeting is the 164th between the two schools and Washburn leads the series, 91-72. The Ichabods have won the last five meetings. The Ichabods are 25-2 in Lee Arena against PSU and 23-12 against the Gorillas in MIAA play. The home team is 23-6 in the last 29 regular season meetings, dating back to 1996-97. The series goes back to 1919-20 and it has been played at least once a year since 1941-42.

De'Andre Washington led four Ichabods in double figures as Washburn keeps its postseason hopes alive with a 77-61 win over Pittsburg State.
The Ichabods led by nine at the break by a score of 35 to 26 after shooting 55 percent in the first half connecting on 12 of 22 attempts. The Gorillas were 11 of 25 for a 44 percent average.
The Gorillas would not get any closer than five in the second half at 48-43. With Washburn leading by six at 54-48 with 7:47 to go, the Gorillas' Spencer Magana, who just hit a 3-pointer, was whistled for a technical on a drive by
Logan Stutz. Stutz hit four straight free throws pushing the lead to 10 and Washburn kept the Gorillas in a double digit deficit the remainder of the game stretching the lead to as many as 18 late in the second half.
Washington scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half to lead the Ichabods and take game-high honors. William McNeill scored 15 points while hitting 8 of 10 free throws. Stutz finished with 11 points and
Nate Daniels scored 10 points.
Maurice Colter added a game-high seven rebounds.
Rodney Grace led the Gorillas with 15 points and seven rebounds.
About Pittsburg State . . .
The Gorillas are 9-3 overall and 5-3 in MIAA play winning their last three games after a short two-game slide falling at home to Southwest Baptist and on the road to Central Missouri by four. Since then the Gorillas have won at Missouri Southern and at home topping Lincoln (72-69) and Emporia State (80-61).
The Groilas are led by Eric Ray who is scoring 11.8 ppg while scoring 13.4 ppg in MIAA play. He has hit 11 of 19 3-point attempts this season. Chris Ware is scoring 10.2 ppg and JaVon McGee is scoring 8.5 ppg with a team-high 7.1 rpg.
Overall the Gorillas are scoring 78.4 ppg while allowing 70.2 ppg. They are +9.1 in rebound margin this season and hitting 49 percent of their field goal attempts hitting 346 of 712 attempts. They are 58 of 171 from 3-point range (34 percent) and 191 of 292 from the free throw line (65 percent).
The Gorillas also have two Topeka natives in their starting line up in Adiran Herrera and Eric Ray. Herrera was a two-time all-state pick at Highland Park and Ray played prep ball at Topeka High.

PSU Sports Information -- Jan. 8, 2011 - PITTSBURG — Andra Bailey and JaVon McGee each recorded double-doubles and Pitt State utilized a quick start to roll to an 80-61 victory over Emporia State Saturday (Jan. 8).
Bailey posted team highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Gorillas, who improved to 9-3 overall and 5-3 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play. McGee added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Eric Marshall fired in 14 points and nine rebounds.
Pitt State led 12-10 with 12:17 remaining in the first half, but the Gorillas ran off the next 15 points to take control against the Hornets (8-6, 5-3 MIAA).
Pitt State kept its foot on the gas, stretching the margin to 22 points, at 39-17, with 3:15 remaining in the period. The Gorillas exited the half with a 42-23 cushion.
Emporia trailed by as many as 25 points in the second half and the Hornets never got any closer than 17 during the final 20 minutes of play.
Pitt State shot 46.3 percent from the field as a team (31-67). The Gorillas also snared 15 offensive rebounds in the contest — 13 between McGee (6), Bailey (4) and Marshall (3). Marshall also blocked three shots in the contest. Logan Jones had six of Pitt State's 16 assists.
Xavier Burnette led all scorers with 16 points for Emporia, while Travis Dykman added eight points and eight rebounds. The Hornets shot just 35.1 percent (20-57) from the field in the game and turned the ball over 18 times.
