Countdown to tip . . .
The Washburn Ichabods will have their first action of the 2011 calendar  when they will play host to Southwest Baptist on Wednesday in Lee Arena.  The Ichabods (6-4, 3-3 MIAA) are coming off a 57-45 win over Central  Missouri on New Year's Eve while the Bearcats (7-5, 4-2 MIAA) fell last  time out at Emporia State 68-65 on New Year's Day.

The Coaches . . .
Washburn Ichabod head basketball coach 
Bob Chipman is in his 32nd season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. For 25 years now Chipman has been the winningest coach in school history and in 2006-07 he became the second winningest coach as a member of the MIAA. Chipman is 684-282 (.710) overall and he has 442 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season. Chipman is 11th amongst all NCAA II coaches in winning percentage who have coached at least 10 seasons. Among that group, he is second in all-time coaching victories in active coaches in career victories. Among all coaches who have at least 10 years experience in DII, he is 25th in winning percentage and seventh in victories. He is the third active winningest coach in NCAA Division II and 10th in winning percentage and his 684 coaching wins is 28th all-time among all NCAA coaches at all levels. At Washburn he has led the Ichabods to 11 conference regular season titles (9 MIAA), 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and the 1987 NAIA National Championship. Chipman is 25-11 against Southwest Baptist.
Southwest Baptist head coach Jeff Guiot is 134-59 in his seventh season at Southwest Baptist. He is 352-152 in 17 years overall.
  
Last time out for the Ichabods . . .
(Dec. 31, 2010) - TOPEKA, Kan. -- A 22-5 Ichabod run over a five minute stretch of the second half and 
Logan Stutz's first double double of the season pushed Washburn to a 57-45 New Year's Eve win over Central Missouri Friday afternoon in Lee Arena.
Both teams struggled in the first half as they combined to hit 14 of 49 shots with the Mules hitting 9 of 25 taking a 26-22 lead into the break. Washburn was 5 of 24 from the field for a 21 percent average. Washburn starters were 3 of 17 from the field and the Mules first five were 7 of 20.
In the second half, the Ichabods tied the score at 28 on a layup by 
Jadarren Mumpfield with 17:06 to play. The Mules rebuilt their lead to four at 32-28 on layups by Ryan Harris and Boo Hunter with 16:04 to go. A 3-pointer by 
Bobby Chipman cut the lead to one at 32-31. 
De'Andre Washington hit a free throw and a jumper by 
Bryce Simons gave the Ichabods their first lead of the second half at 34-32 with 14:24 remaining.
Central (8-4, 3-3 MIAA) rallied to tie the score at 34 on a tip in by Joel Barkers. After a missed 3-pointer by Simons, Stutz put the ichabods up for good on a layup at 36-34. From that point, Stutz scored seven of Washburn's next nine points beginning the big second half run pushing the Ichabods out to a 50-36 lead on a Stutz free throw. The Mules would not get closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Stutz led the Ichabods with 21 points scoring 15 in the second half going 7 of 9 from the field and 7 of 11 from the free throw line. He finished with a season-high 12 rebounds with eight defensive boards. Washington scored 11 points and Chipman finished with a season-high 10 points hitting both of Washburn's two 3-pointers.
The Mules were led by Joel Barkers' 14 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds. Hunter also had double-figure scoring with 13 points.
Washburn shot 42 percent in the second half on 11 of 26 shooting while the Mules were 7 of 23. Both teams finished with 16 field goals with the Mules going 16 of 48 (33 percent) and the Ichabods going 16 of 50 for 32 percent. Washburn finished 23 of 29 from the free throw line while the Mules were 10 of 16.
The 45 points for the Mules were the lowest points scored by any Kim Anderson-coached team at Central.
Last meeting with Southwest Baptist . . .
(Feb. 13, 2010) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods reached the 100-point mark for the second time this season snapping a two-game losing streak to Southwest Baptist in the process in a 100-71 win over the Bearcats. 
The Ichabods jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first half and eventually would lead by as many as 29 in the first half at the 4:21 mark of the opening stanza at 45-16. SBU head coach Jeff Guiot was ejected at the 6:23 mark of the first half after receiving a flagrant technical with Washburn leading 35-14 as the Ichabods were in the middle of a 16-0 run wrapped up by the two technical free throws by William McNeill and a 3-pointer by 
Nate Daniels. The Ichabods held SBU scoreless for nearly three minutes during the run.
The Ichabods were 19 of 38 in the first half hitting 5 of 15 3-point attempts and 10 of 14 attempts from the free throw line. Washburn held the Bearcats to 10 of 27 shooting for 37 percent and 1 of 10 from behind the 3-point line. The Ichabods took a 53-27 lead into the break tying the most points scored in a half by Washburn this season. 
In the second half, Washburn stretched the lead to as many as 38 at 90-52 with 7:17 to go in the game before taking the 29-point win as 
Todd Eils' 3-pointer with 2:14 to go put the Ichabods into triple figures for the first time since they topped Baker on Nov. 28 in a 100-60 win over the Wildcats.
Washburn put six different Ichabods in double figures including all five starters led by 
Logan Stutz's 18 points. Stutz was 4 of 4 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line in his first start since Dec. 5 at Northwest Missouri. McNeill and 
Bryce Simons each scored 17. It was a career-high for Simons as he hit 5 of 6 3-point attempts to go along with a new carer-high six rebounds. Daniels scored 13 points off the bench with eight rebounds while 
Maurice Colter scored 12 points and 
De'Andre Washington scored 10 points with eight rebounds with six assists and five steals.
Ivan Croptov scored 14 points to lead SBU.
Washburn finished the game 37 of 75 from the field for a 49 percent average hitting 11 of 29 3-point attempts and 15 of 21 from the free throw line. The Bearcats were 27 of 67 from the field and 4 of 32 from 3-point range. SBU was 13 of 18 from the free throw line.
The Ichabods outran the Bearcats scoring 17 fast break points compared to two for SBU while scoring 25 points of 20 SBU turnovers. The Ichabods improved to 62-4 in games which they reached the 100-point mark.     
About Southwest Baptist . . .
The Bearcats are 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA entering Wednesday's game. SBU has dropped its last two games falling at home to Missouri Southern 98-81 and 68-65 last time out at Emporia State. Ryan Doughtery leads the team in scoring with 14.8 ppg while Tomas Brock is scoring 13.8 ppg and Kurt Koenig is scoring 10.9 ppg. The Bearcats are averaging 86.8 ppg this season while allowing 80.2 ppg. Of the 813 field goal attempts SBU has taken this season, 435 have been 3-point attempts (53 percent). SBU is taking an average of 36 3-point attempts per game taking a season-high 48 attetmps in a 111-80 win over St. Mary's (Kan.). The Bearcats are shooting 39 percent from 3-point range connecting on 168 from long range. SBU s -5.1 in rebounding margin.

SBU Sports Information -- Jan. 1, 2011 - EMPORIA, Kan. – The SBU Bearcats fell to the Emporia State Hornets, 68-65, and suffered only their second MIAA loss of the season. The Bearcats were led by Ryan Dougherty's 12 points and Tremaine Hill's 11 points.
The game had 10 lead changes with each team enjoying leads of as many as seven points at different times in the game. SBU's bench scored 35 points to ESU's 11. The Bearcats shot 14 of 38 from the 3-point range for 36.8 percent.
Series notes . . .
Wednesday's meeting will be the 44th between Washburn and Southwest Baptist with the Ichabods leading the all-time series 28-15. Washburn has won 17 of the last 24 games. Washburn is 23-10 against SBU in MIAA games. The series is the least-played matchup for Washburn against other MIAA teams with 43 games played. The Ichabods have won the last three games played in Topeka and have gone 3-1 against the Bearcats in the MIAA Tournament.

The Ichabods are 346-64 (.848) all-time in Lee Arena - the 27th season of play. The Ichabods recorded a school-best 28-game winning streak from Nov. 19, 1993 to Feb. 8, 1995 in Lee Arena.
