DURANT, Okla. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softball team split a pair of games on the first day of the South Central Softball Shootout hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday. The Lady Blues (1-5) fell to Abilene Christian in the opener 5-4, before taking a 3-0 win over Cameron in the nightcap. Washburn will be back in action the remainder of the weekend with two games on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Blues took a 2-0 lead after two innings after
Lindsey Moore led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt by
Jacque Horejsi.
Britny Cushing connected on her first home run of the season staking Washburn to the early lead. ACU scored one in the third and took a 3-2 lead after 3 and 1/2 innings. Washburn regained the lead with a two-run fourth inning after
Shelby Erickson picked up an RBI single and
Lauren Himpel scored on a an error. The Wildcats took the lead for good scoring a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh.
Danielle Fox took the loss for the Lady Blues in the circle striking out eight allowing only one earned run as three errors led to four runs for ACU.
Katie Schroeder was 3 for 4 and
Alex Zordel, moore and Cushing each had two hits for Washburn. Cushing also scored two runs. The Lady Blues stranded nine base runners in the game.

The Lady Blues won their first game of the season in a 3-0 win over Cameron behind a complete-game shutout by
Kelsie Novotny who scattered six hits in the win. The Lady Blues got on the board in the bottom of the second
Jacque Horejsi singled to right driving in
Jessie McGown. In the third,
Marissa Martin scored on a single by
Shelby Erickson and
Alex Zordel connected on a solo home run in the fifth inning for the final Washburn run of the game.
