Lady Blues look for Back-to-Back wins
The 11th-ranked Lady Blues will look to start a new winning streak as they travel to Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The last time out, Washburn made a school-record 17 three-point field goals and rolled to a 95-74 win over Missouri Western.
Stevi Schultz led Washburn with her fifth double-double of the season of 26 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Washburn's game with Truman originally scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed to February 14 to the winter weather that traveled through the Midwest earlier in the week.
The Lady Blues are led by three players averaging in double figures. Lombardino leads the team at 17.7 per game. Schultz is averaging 14.7, while
Laura Kinderknecht chips in 10.5 points per outing.
Washburn will take on a Fort Hays State squad that is coming off of a 71-68 win against Missouri Western on Thursday night. Washburn downed the Tigers 71-42 back on December 8 in Topeka.

The Coaches . . .
Washburn head coach
Ron McHenry has posted a 283-56 (.835) overall record and a 156-40 (.796) record in the MIAA with six MIAA regular season championships and the 2005 NCAA National Championship during his 11 seasons as head coach. McHenry has also led the Lady Blues to six MIAA Postseason Tournament titles, including six of the eight played in Kansas City. McHenry has the highest winning percentage (.838) in MIAA history of coaches who have at least 200 wins.
He was named the Lady Blues head coach prior to the 2000-01 season. He leads the country among active women's NCAA Division II Coaches in winning percentage. McHenry was named the MIAA's Coach of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2010 and the Division II Bulletin National Coach of the Year in 2005. (complete bio on page 6 of notes.)
Fort Hays State head coach Tony Hobson, is in his third season leading the Tigers. He has FHSU sitting at 10-9 overall and 7-8 in MIAA play and in a tie for eighth place in the league standings. His record at Fort Hays State sits at 37-38 in his third season, while his career record in his 10th season as a head coach stands at 248-78. Last season, the Hastings College graduate led the Tigers to a 15-13 overall record and a 7th place finish in the MIAA at 8-12.

January 29, 2011 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The ninth-ranked Lady Blues buried a school-record 17 three-pointers, including eight from
Stevi Schultz and rolled to a 95-74 win over Missouri Western on Saturday night at Lee Arena. Washburn avenged its first loss of the season against the Griffons and now find themselves in a tie for first place in the MIAA.
The Lady Blues (15-3, 11-3 MIAA) opened the game on a 21-4 run and never looked back. The game was tied early at 2-2 and Washburn never trailed in the game. Schultz buried her first trey at the 14:57 mark to give Washburn a 5-2 lead. A three by
Megan Lassley pushed the lead to 17 and a layup from
Laura McMullin gave the Lady Blues their biggest lead of the half at 25-6 with 10:01 to play in the half. The Griffons (10-7, 7-6 MIAA) used a quick 7-0 run to get back to within 12, but a layup from
Naudia Campbell and another Schultz trey put Washburn back up 17 and the Lady Blues went into the intermission leading 46-30.
A 17-5 run out of halftime put Washburn up 28 and the rout was on. Washburn used a 7-0 run to gain its largest advantage of the night at 82-50 with 7:14 to play. A 20-6 run late in the game got Missouri Western to within 18, but the game was never in doubt as the Lady Blues cruised to the 21-point win.
Schultz led Washburn with her second consecutive double-double and fifth of the season. She tied a career-high with 26 points and set a new career-high with 14 rebounds. Her eight treys were also a career-high.
Campbell scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and
Megan Lassley chipped in 11 with a career-high eight assists and only one turnover. Washburn dished out 24 assists on the night compared to just 11 for MWSU. 12 of the 13 players who saw time for the Lady Blues scored.
Washburn shot 48 percent (36-of-75) from the field and 42.5 percent (17-of-40) from beyond the arc. The 40 attempts tied a school record. WU was 6-of-7 from the foul line. The Lady Blues out-rebounded the Griffons 43-31.
Rachel Luteyn led Missouri Western with 24 points, while Alicia Bell and Brittany Casady chipped in 16 and 11 points, respectively.
The Griffons shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor and were 6-of-17 from behind the three point line for 35.3 percent. MWSU was 26-of-30 from the charity stripe as Washburn was whistled for 20 fouls compared to just 12 for the Griffons.
Washburn is back in action next Wednesday night as they host Truman State at 5:30 p.m. inside Lee Arena.

Washburn leads the series with Fort Hays State 41-25 and the Lady Blues are 11-0 against the Tigers under
Ron McHenry after a 71-42 win in Topeka back on December 8. WU has won 16 straight in the series and the last 11 in Hays. The last loss to FHSU was a 67-62 setback in 1994.
About Fort Hays State . . .
The Tigers enter the game at 10-9 overall and 7-8 in MIAA play after their 71-68 come-from-behind win over Missouri Western on Thursday night in Hays. The Tigers have now won four straight games.
Traci Keyser leads Fort Hays State in scoring at 10.4 points per game. She is joined in double figures by Crista Bechard at 10.0 per outing. The Tigers are averaging 64.2 points per contest as a team and they are shooting 35.6 percent from the floor and 30.7 percent from behind the arc. FHSU is giving up 63.1 points per game and opponents are shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three point range.
Kara Champlin leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 boards per contest, however, the Tigers get out-rebounded by nearly three boards per game (41.6-38.8). Opponents have committed 3.2 more turnovers per game than Fort Hays State.

FHSU Sports Info. - February 3, 2011 - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team scored six unanswered points in the final 3:32 against Missouri Western and knocked off the Griffons 71-68 on Thursday (Feb. 3) evening at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The win continues a now season-high four-game winning streak for the Lady Tigers.
Fort Hays State came out and put on one of their best first half performances this season, building a lead of as much as 14 in the first half and taking a 41-34 lead to the break. The Lady Tigers shot over 50% from the field and 40% from 3-point range in the half, led by 23 from Traci Keyser.
Missouri Western fought back in the second half, tying the game seven times and taking the lead on five occasions. They took their largest lead of the second half at 68-65 on a 3-pointer by Alicia Bell with 3:32 to go. That, however, would be their final bucket of the game. A layup by Rhys Pihl on the Tigers' next possession cut the lead to one. Kara Champlin hit one of two free throws with 1:57 to go to tie the game at 68.
After a Missouri Western turnover, Pihl would once again make her way to the basket for a go-ahead layup with 39 seconds to play. The Lady Tigers got another stop the next Griffon possession when Keyser blocked a jumper by Brenna Saline that was rebounded by Champlin. Chrisa Bechard knocked down one of two free throws with 22 seconds to play gave Fort Hays State the final margin of 71-68.
Keyser had a monster game to lead Fort Hays State (10-9, 7-8 MIAA). She scored 29 points on 10-17 shooting from the field, including 6-10 from beyond the arc. Her six 3-point field goals made ties her for 9th-most in a game at FHSU all-time. Bechard had another strong performance for the Lady Tigers, scoring 16 points and dishing out four assists. Pihl chipped in 11, including two clutch baskets down the stretch. Champlin was solid in the post as usual, scoring seven points and grabbing nine rebounds.
Missouri Western (10-8, 7-7 MIAA) was led by Jessica Koch with 14 points and Rachel Luteyn and Kallie Schoonover who each had 10. Alicia Bell chipped in 8 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Fort Hays State will have another chance at knocking off a ranked opponent on Saturday (Feb. 5) when No. 11 Washburn visits Gross Memorial Coliseum in a game starting at 1:00 pm.
Last Meeting Between Washburn and Fort Hays State . . .
December 8, 2010 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The fourth-ranked Lady Blues broke the game open at the end of the first half and ran away from Fort Hays State 71-42 on Wednesday night at Lee Arena. Washburn will travel to Truman State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match-up of conference unbeatens.
Washburn (7-0, 3-0 MIAA) jumped out to an early seven point advantage at 13-6 with 11:59 to play in the first half. The Tigers (5-2, 2-1 MIAA) closed to within a pair at 13-11 with 8:43 to play in the half, but the Lady Blues closed the half on a 22-4 run and led 35-15 at the break.
The second half went back-and-forth until the 8:44 mark when Washburn went on a 14-0 run to open a 34-point lead at 63-29 with 5:07 to play. The Tigers got the lead back under 30 and Washburn took the 29-point win to move to 3-0 in conference play.
Stevi Schultz led Washburn with a career-high 26 points, including 17 in the first half and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. She was 7-of-9 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line.
Cassie Lombardino had 14 points, while
Megan Lassley chipped in 10.
Washburn shot 24-of-57 from the field, including 6-of-15 from three-point range. The Lady Blues were 17-of-22 from the charity stripe as well.
Kimber Weiser led Fort Hays State with 11 points as the Tigers went 17-of-55 from the field and 6-of-21 from beyond the arc.
Washburn forced the Tigers into 19 turnovers and out-rebounded FHSU 44-27.
