UCM Sports Information -- (Feb. 5, 2010) The Central Missouri Mules dominated in every phase of the game on Saturday and took care of business against the Lincoln Blue Tigers, 89-54 at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
Central Missouri (14-8, 9-7 MIAA) had to battle through the first 15 minutes of the contest, going back and forth with the Blue Tigers (2-18, 0-16 MIAA). Lincoln got off to a quick start, thanks to guard Cedric Ridle. He scored 12 of the team's first 15 points and helped them to a 15-11 lead at the 15:06 mark.
UCM came right back though, sparked by eight consecutive points from junior guard Boo Hunter to make it 19-15 with 13:52 on the clock. The Blue Tigers tied it at 21, but that would be their last of the game. Central Missouri clamped down on defense, holding LU scoreless in the final 6:10 of the half to take a 34-23 lead into the break.
A 21-13 rebound advantage, combined with a 14-4 edge in points in the paint was the difference, as well as holding the Blue Tigers to only 36 percent shooting. Ridle and Hunter led their respective teams with 12 each at the half.
The Mules offense came alive in the second period, shooting 67.7 percent and scoring 55 points. A 17-1 run that spanned just more than four minutes put the game out of reach, making it 55-29 with 14:04 remaining. Senior guard Bryce Brunz was the catalyst, scoring seven points during the rally.
Lincoln made its only run at the lead following that rally, but could only cut it to 17 before the Mules clamped it down again. A 21-3 spurt that saw multiple fast-break dunks from seniors Tyrone Young and Manny Richardson stretched the margin to 35 with 5:40 to play.
Young put on a show in the half, scoring 16 points and dishing out five assists. Senior forward Joel Barkers also got in double-figures, putting up 10 in the period.
The Mules scored 30 points in the paint during the half, and out-rebounded the Blue Tigers by a 24-12 margin with 12 fast-break points. Defensively, the Mules held LU to only 25 percent shooting as well.
