Ichabods swept for second straight day at UNO

OMAHA, Neb. – The Washburn Ichabods were swept by Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday afternoon 6-1 and 14-4. The sweep drops Washburn to 6-9 overall and 6-6 in MIAA play. The Ichabods return home next weekend to host Missouri Western on Saturday and Sunday.

The Mavericks (11-4, 9-3 MIAA) took game one 6-1 plating three runs in the first and single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Washburn avoided the shutout with a single run in the top of the seventh on a David Wade RBI double.

Raul Guevara (1-2) gave up six runs on 12 hits in four innings and was tagged with the loss. Derek Landis (2-0) earned the win for UNO allowing just two hits in five innings.

The Mavericks completed the doubleheader and weekend sweep with a 14-4 win in the nightcap. Washburn jumped in front 3-0 in the second inning. Tyler Bean belted a two-run home run to left and Blake Hageman added an RBI single for Washburn.

UNO tallied one run in the third and took the lead for good with five runs in the fifth. WU pulled to within 6-4 on a Wade solo home run in the top of the sixth, but the Mavericks responded with four runs in the bottom half to go up 10-4. Nebraska-Omaha added one run in the seventh and three in the eighth to take the 10-run win.

Daren Parker (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up six runs, only one earned, on seven hits in five innings as the Ichabods committed five errors. Andrew Reck (1-1) allowed three runs on four hits in five innings to earn the win and Cory Buckley earned his second save of the season tossing three innings and giving up one run on two hits.

The four-game sweep was Washburn's first time being swept since 2008.
