TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods fell to Missouri Western 6-2 in a five inning game that was shortened due to snow on Sunday afternoon at Falley Field. Washburn has now lost seven straight games. The 'Bods return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon at Fort Hays State at 2 p.m.
Washburn (6-12, 6-9 MIAA) jumped in front 1-0 in the third inning on a
Boone Plager sacrifice fly. The Griffons (10-10, 9-6 MIAA), however, took the lead for good with a five run fourth inning. MWSU had six hits in the inning, including a three-run home run by Isaac Rome.
Washburn scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth on a
Marcus Peavler RBI infield single.
Missouri Western added an RBI bunt in the fifth inning for the 6-2 lead. Washburn had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn't push across a run. After the inning was over strong snow started to fall causing visibility issues and the game was called.
Daren Parker (2-2) took the loss for Washburn. He was cruising along for three innings before allowing the five run fourth inning. He tossed four plus innings allowing six runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Nik Jurado (2-1) earned the win for Missouri Western allowing two runs on six hits in five innings
