Leading Off
Washburn (6-12, 6-9 MIAA) will continue its 11-game road trip with a four-game MIAA series at Missouri Southern (12-11, 8-10 MIAA) this weekend. The series gets underway on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with a doubleheader at MSSU's Joe Becker Stadium and concludes on Sunday with a doubleheader at noon.
The Series
Washburn and Missouri Southern have met 65 times on the diamond with the Lions holding a 37-28 advantage in the series. MSSU took three out of four games from the Ichabods in Joplin last year. Washburn is 28-37 against Missouri Southern under Steve Anson.

Andy Petz is batting .286 with a team-high two home runs and 17 RBI. The Ichabods are hitting just .225 as a team and just .210 in the last seven games (0-7). Washburn has scored just 16 runs in those seven games, while giving up 55.

Missouri Southern
The Lions enter the weekend at 12-12 overall and 8-10 in MIAA play. Missouri Southern dropped a 1-0 non-conference game at Drury on Wednesday evening. The Lions dropped three out of four games to Central Missouri last weekend after splitting a four-game series with Truman the weekend before.
Jesse Kinzey leads Missouri Southern with a .411 batting average. He also leads the team with six doubles, three home runs and 20 RBI. Five other players are batting above .300 with Dane Kolkmeyer next in line at .392.Tee Helsel is batting .317 with a pair of dingers and has 16 runs batted in. CJ Matthews is second on the team with 17 RBI.
Grant Conrad leads the MSSU pitching staff with a 1.32 ERA in 10 appearances. Cody Greibling is 4-1 with 1.88 ERA in six appearances (three starts). Austin Brown leads the team with two saves, while Brett Abell is 3-3 with a team-high 32 K's in 36.2 innings of work in six starts.
The Lions have a 4.45 ERA as a staff and hold opponents to a .284 average, while MSSU hitters bat .296 as a team and opposing pitchers sport a 4.95 ERA.

Lions head man Bryce Darnell is in his fourth year leading the Missouri Southern baseball program. His career record stands at 94-89. Last season, the MSSU grad led the Lions to a 28-26 overall mark, including 20-18 in MIAA play and a spot in the MIAA postseason tournament.
Anson 10th on All-time wins list
Steve Anson has 787 career wins in his 33rd season as a head coach, including 761 wins in his 32nd season at Washburn. That victory total places him 10th on the all-time NCAA-II list. Anson has the most wins among active MIAA coaches.
FHSU and other schedule changes
Washburn's mid-week doubleheader against Fort Hays State has been postponed to April 26. The series was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday before it was pushed to Wednesday and ultimately postponed due to wet weather in Hays.
Because of the series being moved to April 26, the single nine-inning game with Rockhurst originally scheduled for April 26 has been pushed back a day to April 27 at 6 p.m.

March 27, 2011 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods fell to Missouri Western 6-2 in a five inning game that was shortened due to snow on Sunday afternoon at Falley Field. Washburn has now lost seven straight games. The 'Bods return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon at Fort Hays State at 2 p.m.
Washburn (6-12, 6-9 MIAA) jumped in front 1-0 in the third inning on a
Boone Plager sacrifice fly. The Griffons (10-10, 9-6 MIAA), however, took the lead for good with a five run fourth inning. MWSU had six hits in the inning, including a three-run home run by Isaac Rome.
Washburn scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth on a
Marcus Peavler RBI infield single.
Missouri Western added an RBI bunt in the fifth inning for the 6-2 lead. Washburn had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn't push across a run. After the inning was over strong snow started to fall causing visibility issues and the game was called.
Daren Parker (2-2) took the loss for Washburn. He was cruising along for three innings before allowing the five run fourth inning. He tossed four plus innings allowing six runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Nik Jurado (2-1) earned the win for Missouri Western allowing two runs on six hits in five innings.

MSSU Sports Info. - March 30, 2011 - Springfield, Mo. -- Tee Helsel went 3-4 and four Lions pitchers held Drury to just one run, but that wasn't enough, as the Missouri Southern baseball team fell 1-0 today in non-conference action at Drury.
Southern (12-12) left seven runners on base in the game as Drury capitalized with their lone run in the third when a single, a wild pitch and another single scored the go-ahead run for the Panthers.
Cody Griebling started for the Lions and struck out three in two perfect innings of work. Brett Abell pitched two innings and allowed one earned run, while striking out two. Ryan Wheat and Grant Conrad threw two scoreless innings each to finish the game.
Helsel was 3-4, while Harrison Gerber, Dallas Burke and Shane Hoke had a hit each for Southern with Gerber's being a double.
The Lions will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday with a pair of double-headers against Washburn University.
