JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods routed the Lincoln Blue Tigers 11-2 on Friday afteroon at the Lincoln Baseball Field. The series continues tomorrow (Saturday) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
Washburn (9-15, 9-11 MIAA) jumped in front 2-0 in the second inning. With two out and runners on first and second
Blake Boling smashed a double to center scoring
Tyler Bean and
Boone Plager.
The Ichabods extended the lead to 5-0 with three runs in the top of the third.
Marcus Peavler led off with a single and advanced to second on a
Dane Simoneau single to right. After a flyout, Bean smacked his third home run of the season, a three-run shot, to left center.
Lincoln (8-16, 7-16 MIAA) got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the sixth. Adam Rush had an RBI groundout that scored Chris Pfau to get the Blue Tigers to within 5-1.
Washburn tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh to make it 9-1. Back-to-back-to-back RBI singles by Plager, Boling and
Travis Cruz made it 8-1. After Peavler singled to load the bases,
Andy Petz lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give WU an eight-run cushion.
Boling knocked in his fourth and fifth runs of the game with a bases-loaded single in the top of the eighth to make it 11-1. The Blue Tigers got one run back in the bottom of the inning on James Johndrow's solo home run.
Derek Fogel (2-3) earned the win tossing seven solid innings. Fogel allowed one run on four hits, while striking out five.
Joey Hinckley gave up one run on one hit in two innings of relief.
Joe Jungmeyer (1-4) took the loss for the Blue Tigers after giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings. He also walked five batters, while striking out just one.
