Lady Blues blank Gorillas in doubleheader sweep

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues picked up a doubleheader sweep over Pittsburg State in a pair of shutout wins taking the first game 3-0 while taking the nightcap 7-0. Washburn will take on Missouri Southern on Saturday in Jopln, Mo.

In the opener, Washburn's Lindsey Moore drove in two of the three runs with a fifth inning home run breaking a scoreless tie propelling Washburn to the win. Moore scored Washburn's third run of the game in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Hilary Weatherford. Kelsie Novotny (7-9) picked up the win scattering seven hits and striking out six with issuing a free pass in the win. Moore led Washburn's offense with three hits overall while Weatherford collected two along with Lauren Himpel. The home run was Moore's first of the year and she collected a double in the third inning.

Washburn took advantage of two Goriila errors in the first inning of the second game scoring three unearned runs en route to the 7-0 victory. Moore again led Washburn going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Britny Cushing also had a pair of singles and an RBI. Katie Schroeder scored two runs while also driving in a run. Danielle Fox (5-10) held the Gorillas to three hits yielding only one single over the final five innings.
