Ichabods split pair with Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods split a pair of seven-inning games with Lincoln on Saturday afternoon at the LU Baseball Field. Washburn won the opener 11-5, but Lincoln rallied to take the nightcap 4-2 and earn the split. The series concludes with a single nine-inning game on Sunday at noon.

The Ichabods (10-16, 10-12 MIAA) scored a single run in the top of the first to grab the early lead. Blake Boling reached on an error and later scored on a throwing error by the Blue Tigers (9-17, 8-17 MIAA). Lincoln tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second Cie Arell reached on a fielder's choice and later scored an unearned run on a wild pitch.

Washburn took a 6-1 lead with five runs in the fourth inning. Tyler Bean hit his second home run in as many days, a three-run shot, to start things off. Wyatt Hall had an RBI double in the inning and Marcus Peavler had an RBI fielder's choice.

The Ichabods tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make it 8-1. Dane Simoneau led off being hit by a pitch and scored on a double by David Wade, who inturn scored on a fielding error by the leftfielder after Bean had singled to left.

The Blue Tigers plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-5. Gus Durst had three-run triple and later scored on a wild pitch.

The 'Bods scored two more times in the sixth on a Bean double to right center and once in the seventh when Boone Plager scored on a double play.

Brett Ash (3-4) earned the win for Washburn tossing a complete game giving up five runs on nine hits, while fanning five.

Chris Pfau (2-4) took the loss for Lincoln after giving up eight runs on six hits in five innings.

Washburn took an early lead in game two with a single run in the second. Bean led off with a single and later scored on a fielder's choice by Hall.

The lead stood until the bottom of the fifth when the Blue Tigers plated four runs to take the lead. Gus Durst has a bases-loaded single that knocked in a pair and a throwing error by Washburn cleared the bases and allowed Durst to move up to second. He scored one play later on an RBI single by Arell.

WU pulled to within 4-2 in the top of the sixth when Simoneau launched an opposite field solo home run, but the Ichabods could get no closer.

The 'Bods were held to just three hits in the second game and committed four errors.

Daren Parker (2-3) took the loss for Washburn after giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits in 4.2 innings. He fanned five and walked a pair. Kerry Schachenmeyer allowed two hits and struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief.

Taylor Klugman (3-3) tossed a complete game to earn the win, giving up just the two runs on three hits, while walking three in seven innings.
