EMPORIA, Kan. - Caysie Beetley put four shots on goal but Emporia State scored the only goal of the game late in the second half in a 1-0 win over Washburn Thursday night.
Washburn fell to 1-6-1 overall in the non-conference matchup. The Lady Blues will continue action next Thursday in a 6 p.m. match against Missouri Western at Yager Stadium.
Beetley put two shots on net early in the second period but Hornet goalkeeper Nikki Schmitz saved them both. She ended up saving all eight of Washburn's shots on goal.
The Hornets got the game-winner in the 85th minute when Catie Hyde scored her first of the year off an assist from Shannon Thomas.
Mallorie Monhollon made seven saves in goal for the Lady Blues playing all 90 minutes.
ESU edged Washburn in shots, 13-12 and corner kicks, 4-3. The Hornets won their first match and improved to 1-3-3.
