The Ichabods will take a break from MIAA action as they will entertain former conference foe Nebraska Omaha at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 in Lee Arena. Washburn (12-5, 7-3 MIAA) is in a four-way tie for first in the conference race with Missouri Southern, Northwest Missouri and Central Missouri at the halfway point of the season. The Ichabods topped the now NCAA Division I Mavericks (7-13) 73-63 in Omaha earlier this season on Nov. 29. The Ichabods will return to MIAA play on Jan. 25 when they will host Northwest Missouri at 7:30 p.m.

Bob Chipman is in his 33rd season at the helm of the Ichabod basketball program. Chipman is 708-293 (.707) overall and he has 466 wins since the Ichabods joined the MIAA - the most of any teams in the league since the 1991-92 season. Chipman has led the Ichabods to the MIAA Tournament 19 times collecting an all-time league-best 29 wins going 29-16 with a .675 winning percentage during tournament play. In home games, Chipman has amassed a home record of 412-77 (.840) record going 358-65 in Lee Arena and 54-12 in Whiting Fieldhouse. Chipman is 11th amongst all NCAA II coaches in winning percentage who have coached at least 10 seasons. Among that group, he is second in all-time coaching victories in active coaches in career victories. Among all coaches who have at least 10 years experience in DII, he is 25th in winning percentage and seventh in victories. At Washburn he has led the Ichabods to 11 conference regular season titles (9 MIAA), 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and the 1987 NAIA National Championship. Chipman 6-3 vs Nebraska Omaha.
Mavericks head coach Derrin Hansen is in his seventh season at the helm of the UNO men's basketball program in 2011-12, having taken the job after serving as an assistant coach for seven years with former Maverick head coaches Kevin McKenna and Kevin Lehman. Hansen boasts a career record of 117-80 over the first seven years of his head coaching career and hit the century mark on Jan. 12, 2011. He has the second-most victories of any coach in program history, behind only Bob Hanson, who amassed a record of 382-313 from 1969 to 1994.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A 25-2 run in the first half propelled the Washburn Ichabods to a 84-59 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers.
The Ichabods led 41-21 at the break as Washburn (12-5, 7-3 MIAA) won its 21st straight game over the Blue Tigers (3-12, 3-7 MIAA). The Ichabods limited the Blue Tigers to 8 of 25 from the field including 1 of 11 shooting from 3-point range. The Ichabods were 19 of 35 from the field hitting 54 percent of their shots. Washburn also had a 22 to 12 advantage on the glass pulling down 10 offensive rebounds leading to eight second chance points, 28 points in the paint while forcing 10 turnovers leading to 15 points off turnovers.

Will McNeill who scored 18 points recording five rebounds, three assists and three steals all in 24 minutes.
Martin Mitchell scored 16 hitting 6 of 9 shots from the field and
Kyle Wiggins came off the bench to score 13 points hitting 5 of 6 shots including scoring seven straight.
Bobby Chipman led the team with seven rebounds while hitting the Ichabods only 3-pointer of the contest as Washburn finished 1 of 7 from deep.
The Blues Tigers were led by Gregory Motley who scored 27 points all in the second half hitting 6 of 11 3-point attempts and 9 of 15 from the field.
In the second half, the Ichabods improved to 15 of 26 shooting in the second half hitting 58 percent of their shots and the Blue Tigers improved to 14 of 32 from the field. Washburn led by as many as 31 in the second half.
Washburn outrebounded the Blue Tigers 38 to 25 recording 13 offensive rebounds. Washburn outscored Lincoln 54 to 12 in the paint and 24 to 9 in points off turnvovers. Washburn also held a 14 to 0 in fast break points.
About Nebraska Omaha
The Mavericks are 7-13 this season after falling at Nevada on Jan. 17 81-69 in Reno. UNO has lost five of its last six games against mainly fellow Division I opponents. Mitch Albers leads the team in scoring with 18.5 ppg while John Karhoff is scoring 13.5 ppg and C.J. Carter is scoring 10.4 ppg. UNO has been averaging 74.6 ppg this season while allowing 78.2 ppg. UNO is 3-10 on the road this season.
Series history with Nebraska Omaha
Saturday's meeting will be the 57th in school history and Washburn holds a 36-20 all-time lead in the series. Washburn has won the last three games. The two teams have played at least once a year from 1947-48 through 1973-74, a period of 27 straight years. The series began in 1933-34 and WU won the first nine meetings. The Ichabods are 3-0 against the Mavericks in Lee Arena. Since the 1956-57 season, Washburn is 10-11 in Omaha.

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Ichabods last win over an NCAA Division I team was on Nov. 29, 1984 in Stillwater, Okla. in a 67-66 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys after defeating Nebraska Omaha 73-63 in Sapp Fieldhouse.
After leading 41-27 at the half, the Mavericks jumped back in the game in the second half cutting the Washburn lead to seven at 46-39 opening the half on a 12-4 run over the first 4:20 of the half hitting the first four of their second half shots.
The Ichabods pushed the lead back to 14 at 55-41 with 11:49 to go in the game after
Bobby Chipman scored five straight points including his first 3-pointer of the night. UNO cut the Washburn lead back to seven at 55-48 with 9:10 to play in the game. A bucket by
Will McNeill stopped a four-plus minute scoring drought.
Chipman hit his second three of the night with 5:20 to go extending Washburn's lead back to double digits at 65-55. A pair of free throws by
Alex North put the Ichabods up a dozen with 4:36 to go.
Washburn led by 10 at 67-57 and would push its lead to 12 with 3:10 to go after a jumper in the lane by
Kyle Wiggins. The Mavericks would not get closer than 10 the rest of the game as Washburn improved to 5-2 on the season.
The Ichabods never trailed in the first half stretching their lead to as many as 14 on a 3-pointer by
Mitch Allen with 37 seconds left in the first half. Washburn was 16 of 30 from the field in the opening half and dominated the Mavericks on the boards outrebounding UNO 20 to 6 holding UNO to two offensive rebounds in the stanza.
McNeill led the Ichabods with 18 points while hitting all eight of his free throw attempts. Chipman scored 12 and Mitchell finished with 11.
UNO (2-5) was led by Alex Welhouse with 16 points. Mitch Albers scored 11 and C.J. Cater scored 10.

(Jan. 17, 2012) – (UNO Media Relations) -- RENO, Nev. – The UNO men's basketball team played an outstanding first half to hang with a streaking Nevada squad, but it was not enough to get past the Wolf Pack on Tuesday night in an 81-69 loss at Lawlor Events Center.
Freshman guard CJ Carter paced UNO with 18 points with a trio of 3-pointers. Junior forward Alex Welhouse finished with 13 points on three treys, in addition to a career-high-tying five assists and seven rebounds, and sophomore forward Matt Hagerbaumer pulled down seven boards of his own.
Senior guard Mitch Albers also had 13 points, marking his 30th straight game with double-figure scoring dating back to the 2010-11 season. Sophomore center John Karhoff rounded out the Mavs' double-figure scorers with 10 points for the night.
As a team, Nebraska Omaha shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the field to Nevada's 47.6 percent (30-of-63).
The Mavericks played right with Nevada in the first half, outshooting the Wolf Pack 51.7 percent (15-for-29) to 46.9 percent (15-for-32).
With the help of 10 points from Story in under three minutes, Nevada took the momentum with a 12-0 run to go up 61-47. Karhoff relieved UNO's scoring drought with a jump shot, but Story hit his fourth 3-pointer of the night to make it 64-49. Welhouse then drained a trey of his own, and two straight layups from Albers got it to 68-58. Czyz went up for a dunk, and Hunt hit two charity shots to push the score to 72-58 with just under five minutes to go.
UNO continued battling with consecutive 3-pointers by Albers and Welhouse to make it 76-67 at 2:24, but Nevada kept the Mavs at bay to take its 12th straight victory by a score of 81-69.

Ichabod Basketball HIstory
Washburn is 1,416-979 (.590 in 2,395 games) in its 106th season of intercollegiate action. The Ichabods are the 10th-winningest team in NCAA Division II history and the 26th winningest team this decade. The Ichabods are 467-209 since joining the NCAA Division II ranks, which is the most since the 1989-90 season in the MIAA.
