SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Ichabods split a doubleheader Saturday at Drury, winning the first game 6-1 to get their first win of the year and then dropping the second game 11-4. Washburn moved to 1-2 and will complete the four-game series with the Panthers Sunday at noon.
Kerry Schachenmeyer got the complete game win in the opener, allowing four hits and a run in seven innings. He struck out one and walked three as he earned a win in his first start after coming out of the bullpen 13 times last year.
Marcus Peavler got the Ichabods on the board with a home run in the first inning.
Connor Crimmins then doubled in
Josh Wilder and
Brad Alberts in the second inning to give Washburn a 3-0 lead.Wilder and Alberts both reached on singles.
Blaine Matthews then drove in a run in the fourth and
Richard Swan singled in a run in the fifth.Washburn added one more run off a homer from
Tyler Bean in the seventh and then the Panthers broke the shutout bid with a run in the seventh.
In game two, Bean scored to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third after
Vince Liberatore grounded out with the bases loaded. Drury scored two more in the bottom of the third and then Washburn tied it again in the top of the fourth. Matthews led off the inning with a double and then Peavler walked.
John Calhoun drove them both in with a double.
The Panthers broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with four runs off four hits and Washburn scored just once more after that when Crimmins drove in Peavler in the sixth.
Eric Schmid started for Washburn and went the first three innings. He allowed six runs, five of them earned, and gave up nine hits with three strikeouts.
