The Ichabods will play their home opener Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Rockhurst at Falley Field.
Bean allowed one run off seven hits as he made his first start as an Ichabod. The senior played third base exclusively last year and had last started on the mound in 2010 at Missouri State. He struck out three Panthers and allowed two walks.
He hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning that capped Washburn's scoring. He finished the day 3 for 5 at the plate and he scored one run.
Washburn got on the board first when
Josh Wilder hit a three-run homer in the second inning.
Brad Alberts and
Ryan Costanza had led off the inning with singles and then
Boone Plager advanced then each a base on a sacrifice bunt.
The Ichabods later scored two runs in seventh, eighth and ninth innings to put the game away.
Blaine Matthews hit a solo shot in the seventh and then
John Calhoun hit an RBI single. In the eighth Alberts homered to left center and then Matthews hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Costanza.
Bean moved from pitcher to designated hitter in the bottom of the eighth and the Panthers answerd with two runs that inning before Bean hit his two-run homer in the ninth.
Bean and Alberts both ended the game with three hits and Plager and Calhoun each had two. Washburn got 15 hits off the Drury pitchers. Starter Trevor Richards went the first four innings and gave up six hits and three runs while taking the loss.
Drury collected 11 hits and two walks and both teams left eight runners on base. The Panthers committed three errors while Washburn had its first error-free game.
