Final Notes on the FHSU game
The Lady Blues improved to 43-26 all-time against Fort Hays State…Washburn swept the season series and has won 18 of the last 19 meetings….Washburn has won nine straight in Lee Arena against FHSU…the Lady Blues earned their 22nd 20-win season and head coach
Ron McHenry earned his 11th straight in his 12th year.
McHenry reaches milestone 300th win
Ron McHenry began his 12th season with the Lady Blues in 2011-12 and his 87-63 win on December 17 against Missouri Western gave him the 300th win in his career, all at WU. McHenry now has a 310-63 (.831) record.
McHenry entered the season second in NCAA Division II history with an .829 winning percentage (among coaches with at least 10 years) and second among active coaches in winning percentage (among coaches with at least five years). Thirty-six active DII coaches had reached the 300-win level and McHenry became the 37th. Among coaches who have at least 300 wins, only Lloyd Clark (Delta State 1984-2002) has a betting winning percentage (.834).
McHenry has had at least 23 wins in every year but his first. He's reached the 30-win mark three times. After a 13-14 record in his first season, 2000-01, McHenry has brought the Lady Blues to the NCAA tournament 10 straight times.
McHenry, a national champion in 2004-05, is the Washburn career leader in winning percentage among the five coaches since the program started in 1969-70. He is second in career wins at WU behind Patty Dick with 431 from 1977-00.
Lady Blues jump to 11th in USA Today ESPN national poll
The Lady Blues climbed three spots from 14th to 11th in the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll released January 31. Another poll is expected Tuesday. Washburn is the highest ranked MIAA team and the second highest team in the South Central Region.
The Lady Blues have been ranked in all 10 polls this year. They were left out of the final poll last year but have been ranked in 150 of the last 151 polls, dating back to week three of the 2002-03 season.
Pittsburg State is right behind Washburn at No. 12 and Emporia State is 22nd. South Central Region foe Northeastern State is 10th, Arkansas Tech is 13th and Newman is 23rd.
Washburn earns 11th straight 20-win season
Washburn 75-55 win February 4 against FHSU was the 20th of the season, giving the Lady Blues their 11th straight 20-win season. The Lady Blues last failed to reach at least 20 wins in 2000-01, head coach
Ron McHenry's first year. During that streak, Washburn has had three 30-win seasons.
Overall, Washburn has had 22 seasons with 20 wins or more and five of them have yielded at least 30 wins. Washburn's record for wins in a year is 35 in 2004-05, the national title year.
MIAA coaches and media pick Lady Blues first
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Lady Blues were picked as the team to beat in the MIAA's coaches and media preseason polls released during the MIAA Virtual Media Day. Washburn was a unanimous pick in the coaches poll and earned 12 of 16 first place votes in the media poll.
The Lady Blues, second-place finishers last year with a 22-7 overall record and a 17-5 MIAA mark, were picked in front of Emporia State in both polls. Defending regular season and tournament champion Northwest Missouri was picked third in the media poll and tied for fifth in the coaches poll.
Lady Blues lead nation in 3-point shooting; near top of several other NCAA statistical categories
The Lady Blues are in the top 20 of nine different statistical categories in the February 2 NCAA report. Washburn ranks first in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (.393) and is in the top five in rebound margin (+12.8), scoring margin (+20.9), and field goal percentage (.469). The Lady Blues are in the top 20 in assists per game, assist to turnover ratio, field goal percentage defense and scoring offense and defense.
Ebonie Williams ranks 34th in the nation shooting .530 from the field and
Stevi Schultz is 40th in 3-point field goal percentage (.385) and 46th in 3-pointers per game (2.4).
The Lady Blues rank highly in rebounds because they have only been out-rebounded three times this year. Their shooting percentages are helped by the fact that they've shot 50 percent or better from the field eight times and 45 percent or better from long range eight times. They have only allowed opponents to shoot 40 percent or better once this year.
Williams' two-school career closing with huge numbers
Senior guard
Ebonie Williams has 332 points this year and she scored 1,123 points in her three previous years at Seton Hall. She has 1,455 points in her four years and is averaging 13.0 points a game.
Williams' .533 shooting percentage this year is a career high. She had never shot better than .419 at Seton Hall. Her 14.4 points a game is also a career high. Her sophomore year in 2008-09 she shot .419 and averaged 13.2 points a game to earn second team all-Big East honor.
Schultz takes over 2nd in career 3-pointers at Washburn
Senior guard
Stevi Schultz is second in school history, now with 189 3-pointers in her career. Earlier this year she passed Lora Westling, who had 144 from 2001-05. Brooke Ubelaker (2003-07) is the career leader with 236 at WU.
This year she's shooting a career-high 39 percent from 3-point range. Schultz' 82 3-pointers last year was the fourth-highest single-season total in school history.
Schultz nears 1,000 points
Stevi Schultz has 957 career points in her four years at Washburn and her 11.4 points a game this year has her on average to pass 1,000 points before the regular season ends. She would become the 21st Lady Blue to reach 1,000 career points. Corkey Stiger was the last to reach that milestone, scoring 1,047 in two seasons from 2006-08.
Season Flash Backs: Don't Forget...
Four in a row over 50: The Lady Blues topped the 50 percent mark in field goal shooting in four straight games, all MIAA contests, from December 10 to January 3. They averaged a .562 field goal percentage during that stretch.
Keeping 'em under 40: The Lady Blues kept their first 13 opponents to under 40 percent shooting. Central Missouri's .469 effort on December 31 was the first to top 40 percent. Prior to that game, teams were shooting just 32 percent against Washburn.
300th win for McHenry: Lady Blues coach
Ron McHenry got his 300th career win, all at Washburn, on December 17 against Missouri Western.
Last-second heartrbreak: Sierra Moeller tied the game December 10 against Truman with 29 seconds left but Bulldog Megan Sharpe made a jumper as time expired to give TSU an upset over then-No. 15 Washburn in Lee Arena.
400 straight under 100: The Lady Blues 67-60 win at Fort Hays State on December 7 marked the 400th straight game Washburn has kept opponents under 100 points. The last time was on January 27, 1999, at Emporia State.
School-record margin of victory: Washburn's 92-point win over Tabor on November 14 is the highest in school history. The previous largest was by 87 on November 25, 1983 to St. John's (Kan.), 113-26. This was Washburn's 11th 100-point game in school history and first since winning 102-43 to Southwestern on November 23, 2009.
Another 100-point game!: Washburn made it back-to-back 100-point games for the first time in school history with a 108-60 win over Southwestern on November 16. The Lady Blues had record triple-digit games twice in the same season in 2005-06 and 1983-84 but never in consecutive games.
Happiest Place on Earth: The Lady Blues went 3-0 in the season-opening Disney Tip-Off West Coast Classic to claim the trophy.
Ebonie Williams earned MVP honor.
Near DI Upset: A last-second lay-up spoiled Washburn's exhibition upset bid, 52-50, at Kansas State on November 8.
Ebonie Williams led WU with 15 points.
Last time out against Central Missouri
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Five Lady Blues reached double figures and No. 21 Washburn shot better than 50 percent for the third straight game in a 74-66 win at No. 22 Central Missouri December 31.
Ebonie Williams went 6 of 10 from the field to lead Washburn with 14 points.
Stevi Schultz hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and

Laura Kinderknecht hit a pair of 3s off the bench and finished with 11 points and
Tiara George, playing her second game after sitting out over a year, went 5 for 5 for 10 points.
After making just three of their first nine free throws, the Lady Blues drained their final nine, all in the final 5:24 of the game, to hold off the Jennies.
The Lady Blues led by as much as 12 in the first half but after five ties, including one at 37-37 at halftime, the Jennies took their first lead with a lay-up from Renae Shippy to open the second half. There were five more ties in the second half and UCM never led by more than four.
The Jennies (8-4, 2-4 MIAA) built a 43-39 in the opening minutes of the second half but Washburn went on a 7-0 run that was capped by Moeller's first 3-pointer of the year, giving Washburn a 46-43 lead at 16:32.
The final tie, at 58-58, was broken by a pair of free throws from Williams, the first two of nine straight makes for WU. Taylor Hansen hit a 3-pointer to give the Jennies a 61-60 lead before Williams' jumper gave Washburn the lead for good at 62-61. Schultz hit a 3-pointer after that and then a basket and free throw from Kinderknecht put Washburn up by six.
Kinderknecht's free throws with 39 seconds remaining put Washburn up by eight and made her the fifth player to reach double figures.
Washburn shot 57 percent in the game and is now shooting 50 percent in five MIAA games. The Jennies became the first team to shoot 40 percent or better against Washburn this year with a 47 percent effort. Washburn made 6 of 15 3-pointers and the Jennies made 9 of 18. Washburn led the rebound battle 33-19 but committed 15 turnovers to UCM's nine.
Moeller led Washburn with 10 rebounds, reaching double figures for the second straight time and seventh this season.
The Lady Blues opened the game on fire and quickly built a double-digit lead. They made nine of their first 11 shots and led 21-11 at the 12:32 mark of the first half. The Jennies were shooting just 3 of 12 at that point but they held on and used an 11-1 run to tie the score at 33-33 at the 2:49 mark.
Washburn went 3:38 without a field goal during the Jennies' streak and ended the half shooting 15 of 26 (.577) and the Jennies shot 13 of 28 (.464). Williams went 4 for 5 from the field to lead Washburn with eight points in the first half. Schultz, Kinderknecht and George each had six.
Four Jennies finished the game in double figures. Saraethea Brown led with 14 and she also led with four rebounds. The Jennies dropped their fourth straight MIAA game.
