Brett Ash pitched a shut out Friday afternoon as Washburn won its series opener at Truman 1-0. The Ichabods improved to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. The two will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. to continue the series.
Ash (1-2) went all nine innings and allowed six hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. He pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning after giving up a double, a walk and a single, all with two outs. He struck out the next batter to ended the inning.
The Ichabods got Ash all the run support he needed in the next half inning.
Josh Wilder led off with a single and then
Ben Reynoldson hit a bunt single. A Truman balk advanced them both a base and then
John Calhoun later grounded out to drive in Wilder.
Calhoun and four other Ichabods had one hit each. Washburn left eight on base. The Bulldogs (1-12, 0-9 MIAA) left seven on base.
Tyler Stefan started for Truman and went eight innings while picking up the loss. He gave up all five Washburn hits and struck out seven while walking one.
