KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rockhurst scored seven runs in the first two innings and held on to defeat Washburn 11-7 Wednesday in the Ichabods' final non-conference game of the regular season.
The Ichabods fell to 20-20 while the Hawks improved to 27-13. Washburn will continue action on the road Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Northwest Missouri.
The Hawks scored one run in the first and then six in the second off seven hits to chase Washburn starter
Mark Biesma out of the game.
Washburn began its comeback attempt in the fourth inning after
Connor Crimmins led off with an infield single. Two straight errors cost the Hawks some runs after that.
Brad Alberts reached on an error by the shortstop and then
Tyler Bean singled to left field and Crimmins and Alberts scored after a fielding error by the left fielder.
Marcus Peavler drove Bean in with a double and then he later scored on an RBI groundout to third.
Rockhurst got one more in the fourth to make it 8-4 and the Ichabods got within one with three in the top of the fifth. Alberts had an RBI double and Bean drove in two with a triple.
The Hawks added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth and kept Washburn off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Bean was 2 for 4 with three RBI and Alberts and Crimmins each had two hits. Washburn totaled nine hits while Rockhurst had 15.
