5/17/2012 9:11:00 AM

Daktronics All-South Central Region Team

Senior third baseman John Calhoun earned his second all-South Central Region first team honor as he was named to the Daktronics team announced Thursday. Calhoun was also named an NCBWA all-region honoree earlier and will be on the All-America ballot for both teams.

Calhoun led the Ichabods with a .398 batting average and he finished the regular season in the top eight of every MIAA hitting category accept triples. While final MIAA stats have not been released, Calhoun finished his season with nine home runs, 74 hits, 47 runs scored and 43 RBI, all team highs. He also led the team and was second in the conference with 23 stolen bases.

Along with the two first team all-region selections, Calhoun was named first team all-MIAA and he's one of the most decorated players in recent baseball history at Washburn. Dylan Smith is the last Ichabod to have earned a first team all-region and first team all-MIAA award as he earned the honors in 2003.

The Ichabods finished 27-24 and fourth in the MIAA at 22-18. They had their first winning season since 2006.
