HAYS, Kan. -- Head coach Chris Herron got his 400th career win and Jessica Kopp got her second career double-double as Washburn beat Fort Hays State 25-23, 25-21, 28-26 Friday night in MIAA action.

The win for No 3 Washburn (14-0, 5-0 MIAA) sets up a match of NCAA Division II's only unbeaten teams as the Lady Blues will play No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at 4 p.m.

Herron moved to 400-84 in his 14 years as a head coach with a 326-55 record in 11 years at Washburn.

The Lady Blues won two close sets to start the match and then the Tigers (12-6, 2-3 MIAA) looked like they would get one and force a fourth set. Jenna Ulrich got a kill for the Tigers to get them to set point at 24-17. The Lady Blues then rolled out an unprecedented 8-0 run, fighting off set point six straight times, to go up 25-24. The streak ended with three straight blocks from Jessica Fey and then two straight kills from Kopp.

Fort Hays State then tied the match at 25-25 and then at 26-26. Fey then set down a kill to get Washburn to match point and then an FHSU attack error gave Washburn the win.

The Tigers built their lead in the third set with a 6-0 run that led to them scoring 12 of 14 points to go up 19-9.

Kopp ended with 11 kills and 11 digs, getting her first double-double since her freshman year. She hit .321 while Fey hit .304 and led Washburn with 12 kills and six blocks. Marissa Cox and Hillary Hughes had seven kills each. Kelsey Lewis added 10 digs and Abby Wittman had 32 assists.

The first set had 14 ties and five lead changes before Washburn pulled ahead with a 5-2 run to end the set after being down 21-20. There were 13 ties and four lead changes in the second set and Washburn scored four straight to win it after a 21-21 tie.

Washburn hit .220 in the match with 43 kills and 51 digs. The Tigers hit .157 with 46 kills and 50 digs. Each team had eight blocks. FHSU's attack percentage was the highest Washburn has allowed in an MIAA match.
