LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The 2025-26 Washburn Ichabod volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for its work in the classroom this season earning the team academic honor.  

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. In the 2025-26 academic year the Ichabods finished with a team GPA of 3.60. 

Washburn has been a recipient of the award ten times overall, including each of the last six years and eight times since 2018. They were one of 10 schools from the MIAA to receive the award.  

Those in the conference also honored were: Arkansas-Fort Smith, Central Oklahoma, Central Missouri, Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri, Pittsburg State, Fort Hays State, Emporia State and Missouri Southern.  

The Ichabods are set to begin the 2026 season on Thursday, August 27 taking on Oklahoma Christian at home in Lee Arena for the start of the Washburn Invitational.
