No. 24 Ichabods travel to Jefferson City to face Blue Tigers

Pregame
The No. 24-ranked Washburn Ichabods will look to avoid their first three-game losing streak since the 2010-11 season as they will continue their three-game road swing in Jefferson City, Mo., where they will face the Lincoln Blue Tigers. Washburn (10-4, 3-3 MIAA) is coming off an 85-78 loss at Northeastern State while the Blue Tigers (3-15, 2-6 MIAA) fell at Lindenwood 69-50 last time out. Washburn will have one more road game at Lindenwood on Jan. 26 before returning home for four straight beginning with Missouri Southern on Jan. 31.

• The Ichabods are in a stretch of six of seven games on the road to open MIAA play.

• The last time Ichabod opponents shot over 50 percent from the field in back-to-back games was during the 2010-11 season with Fort Hays State shot 56 percent from the field and Central Missouri shot 50 percent from the field in a pair of losses. The past two games Truman (54 percent) and Northeastern (58 percent) were above the 50 percent mark.
Will McNeill recorded his 30th game at Washburn with at least 20 points and set a career-high with six assists at Northeastern last time out. The game also marked his 70th time scoring in double figures at Washburn.

Lincoln Blue Tigers head coach John Redmond . . .
• Redmond is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Blue Tigers and his sixth year overall with the team recording a 15-82 record at Lincoln. 
• Redmond was elevated to the position of head coach after spending two years as an assistant. 
• Prior to coming to Lincoln, Redmond served as the head coach at Arkansas Baptist, ultimately leading the school to a No. 3 overall ranking in the final 2004 NAIA Division I standings and a No. 5 ranking in the final 2006 standings.

Last time out for the Ichabods • Northeasten State 85, #10 Washburn 78 • 1/19/13
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The No. 10-ranked Washburn Ichabods lost their second straight game falling 85-78 to Northeastern State. 
Of the RiverHawks' 22 field goals, 13 came from 3-point range as Northeastern State shot 72 percent from 3-point range. NSU was aided by 28 points from the free throw line as they finished 28 of 35 from the line in front of a near-capacity 700 fans.
The Ichabods (10-4, 3-3 MIAA) led 32-31 at the break marking the second time in a row the Ichabods lost after leading at halftime. Washburn shot 60 percent in the first from the field hitting 14 of 24 shots for a 58 percent average finishing at 53 percent for the game after hitting 27 of 51 shots overall. The RiverHawks finished 22 of 38 from the field for a 58 percent average on the day.
Coming out of the break, Bobby Chipman put the Ichabods up 34-31 but a 3-pointer by Jermaine Bransford started a 15-5 run over the next 4:38 to put the RiverHawks up 46-39 with 14:41 remaining in the game.
The Ichabods cut the lead to four at 52-48 with 10:14 to play after a pair of Will McNeill free throws but the RiverHawks would go on a 10-2 run over the net 2:56 to build a 12 -point lead at 62-50 with 7:05 to play and Washburn would not get closer than seven the rest of the way after two McNeill free throws in the closing seconds.
McNeill led the Ichabods with 23 points going 11 of 15 from the free throw line and he also led the Ichabods with six assists. Martin Mitchell scored 16 and Chipman finished with 12.
Bryton Hobbs scored 25 to lead the RiverHawks pacing four Northeastern State players in double figures. 

Series history with Lincoln
• Thursday's meeting will be the 26th in the series history and Washburn leads 22-3.
• Washburn has won the last 22 meetings in the series which began on Dec. 18, 1957 with the Blue Tigers winning 93-80. Lincoln won the next two and the teams did not meet again until Jan. 24, 1990 when the Ichabods won 98-93 on the road. 
• Washburn has won the last 22 games in the series and the last five match ups by an average margin of 25 points per game. 
• Overall the Ichabods are 9-1 against Lincoln in Jefferson City all-time having won their last nine games with the lone loss coming in 1957 in the first meeting in the series. 
• In Topeka, the Ichabods are 11-1 and on neutral site games Washburn is 2-1. 

About Lincoln
• The Blue Tigers enter the game with a 3-15 record and a 2-6 mark in MIAA play.
• Lincoln lost last week at Lindenwood 69-50 last time out but defeated Northwest Missouri 70-65 in Maryville on Jan. 16.
• Cedric Ridle leads the Blue Tigers in scoring at 18.7 ppg while averaging 21.1 ppg in MIAA play. He is also averaging 7.4 rpg in conference play.

Last Time out for Lincoln
(Jan. 19, 2013) -- ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood held a 52-27 edge in rebounding and outscored the Lincoln men's basketball team by 22 in the second half as the Lions defeated the Blue Tigers, 69-50, on Saturday afternoon.
Charles Cole scored 17 points to lead the Blue Tigers, who led for the entire first half before Lindenwood rallied to take the lead in the second. Cole also grabbed five rebounds while Cedric Ridle and Devin Booker each pulled down six. Ridle finished second in scoring with 12 points and three assists while Booker chipped in five points.
Lincoln scored the first seven points of the game and kept the Lions off the scoreboard for nearly all of the first five minutes, ultimately taking an 11-point lead (19-8) on a layup by Ridle with 8:37 left in the first half. The Lions held the Blue Tigers scoreless for the next five minutes, closing the gap to within three before Cole made a trey to Lincoln ahead, 22-16. Lindenwood continued to chip away at the lead, making it a one-point contest before Ridle made a layup to send Lincoln into halftime up 27-24.
Ridle went back to work in the second half, increasing the Lincoln lead to five with a jumper, but Lindenwood completed its rally in the first five minutes of the period. Lindenwood took its first lead of the half at the 15:31 mark, going up 36-35 on a three-pointer. It would prove to be a lead that Lindenwood would never relinquish. A pair of free throws from Mario Bass allowed Lincoln to make the score 43-42 with just over 10 minutes remaining, but Lindenwood responded with a 16-2 run that gave the Lions control of the game.
Neither team shot well, with Lindenwood making just 38% of its attempts from the floor (20-52) while Lincoln made only 19 of 63 field goal attempts (30%). The Lions' perimeter defense did its job, limiting the Lincoln offense to just six made three-pointers in 32 attempts. Lincoln only turned the ball over eight times and forced 16 takeaways during the game, but the Blue Tigers once again got in foul trouble, getting called for 21 that led to 18 points for Lindenwood off free throws.
Shakir Preston scored seven points and dished out two assists and Greg Motley added five points with two assists and a rebound. Mario Bass tallied four steals to go with four points and three rebounds  to close out the scoring.
Lincoln falls to 3-15 overall and 2-6 in MIAA play with the loss while Lindenwood improves to 11-4 on the season and 4-3 in the conference.

Last meeting with Lincoln
(Feb. 25, 2012) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods clinched a share of their 10th MIAA regular season championship with a 107-69 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers in Lee Arena. 
The Ichabods used a 13-0 run over a 2:40 time period of the first half turning a 14-12 lead into a 27-12 lead and then after trading buckets, Washburn would then go on a 19-3 run over a nearly six-minute period pushing the lead to 50-23 with 2:06 to play in the half. Each team hit one more field goal in the half as the Ichabods took a 51-25 lead into the break.
Coming out of the break, the Ichabods kept the scoring going ripping off an 11-2 run over the first 2:53 of the second half pushing the lead to 35 at 62-27 with 16:52 remaining in the game as the Blue Tigers never got closer than 27 the rest of the game.
Will McNeill led the Ichabods with 22 points pacing six Ichabods in double figures while collecting three steals giving him 158 for his career setting a Washburn record. Jared Henry had a career high 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field hitting 4 of 5 3-point attempts and Joseph Smith scored a career high with 15 points. Zack Riggins scored 14 points on 7 of 7 shooting from the floor and Kyle Wiggins and Alex North each scored 10 points.
The Ichabods led 51-25 at the half while scoring 56 more point in the second half for the win.
Washburn shot a season-high 68 percent from the field hitting 43 of 63 attempts while connecting on 10 of 18 3-point attempts.
Cedric Ridle scored 24 to lead the Blue Tigers.

Bod bits
Will McNeill was named a preseason All-American by the Basketball Times. He is the first Ichabod to receive preseason All-American honors since Travis Robbins prior to the 2004-05 season.
Will McNeill has been named the MIAA Player of the Week twice on Nov. 26 and on Dec. 3. 
• The Ichabods are +11.5 in scoring margin this season.
• The three freshman on the Ichabod roster (Khai Hutchinson, Evan Robinson and Colton Anderson) are all redshirting this season.
Bryce Simons has missed the entire season with a knee injury.

Will McNeill is 30 assists shy of becoming the sixth Ichabod to reach at least 1,000 points and 200 assists joining Tom Meier (2,082/242), Greg Wilson (1,323/295), Mike Dickerson (1,130/214), Todd Alexander (1,099/215) and Shannon Kruger (1,014/341). He enters the Lincoln game with 1,432 points and 170 assists.
