ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The No. 24 Washburn Ichabods held off a late charge by the Lindenwood Lions leaving Hyland Arena with a 66-63 win. Washburn will now start a four-game home stand starting with Missouri Southern on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The Ichabods (12-4, 5-3 MIAA) led by 10 at 56-46 with 5:41 to play before the Lions used a 16-8 run to cut the Ichabod lead back to two at 62-60 with 15 seconds to play after a pair of free throws by Alex Bazzell.
Will McNeill hit back to back free throws to put Washburn back up four with 11 seconds remaining. After a miss by Lindenwood (12-5, 5-4 MIAA),
Christian Ulsaker was fouled and hit both free throws to go up 66-60. Bazzell hit a 3-pointer before the clock ran out trimming the Ichabod lead in half but it wasn't enough as Washburn held on for the win.
The Ichabods led 30-24 at the half after falling behind by as many as five in the opening frame at 11-6. Washburn rallied to tie the score at 11 with 11:29 to play on a 3-pointer by
Kyle Wiggins and would go up 14-11 on a three by
Leon Flowers. A pair of free throws by the Lions pushed them back in front at 19-16 after back to back jumpers with 8:21 to play.
Joseph Smith would start a 12-1 run over the next five minutes to push Washburn out in front by eight at 28-20 with 2:30 to play. A 3-pointer by the Lions with 1:22 to play in the half cut the lead back to six at 30-24. WU finished 11 of 26 from the field in the first half while the Lions were 9 of 29 including 1 of 9 from 3-point range.
McNeill led the Ichabods with 13 points going 6 of 6 from the free throw line with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Wiggins finished with 12 including a pair of 3-pointers and Smith finished with 12 as well.
Bobby Chipman finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Cody Sorenson lead four Lions in double figures with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Washburn was 24 of 57 from the field for the game and finished 13 of 18 from the free throw line going 8 of 11 in the second half. The Lions came into the game averaging an MIAA-high 79.8 points per game, were 21 of 57 from the field for the game. Washburn had a 40-36 advantage on the glass for the game. The Ichabods had 13 offensive rebounds leading to 18 second chance points while outscoring the Lions 26 to 24 in the paint and Washburn held a 23 to 8 lead in bench points.

(Jan. 26, 2013) -- Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team shot 31 percent from the floor, while Northeastern State shot 50 percent and the Lions fell to the RiverHawks, 73-54 at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The Lions (9-8, 4-5 MIAA) were led in scoring by 18 points and 11 rebounds from Jordan Talbert. He shot 7-14 from the field and 4-6 from the free-throw line. Cameron Cornelius scored a career-high 14 points on 3-7 shooting and 8-10 from the free-throw line. Marquis Addison added nine points.
Northeastern State (14-4, 7-3 MIAA) shot 48 percent in the first half and 52 percent in the second half as the RiverHawks led for nearly the entire game. Jermaine Bransford scored 20 points and added 17 rebounds, while Bryton Hobbs and Marcus Sheppard scored 12 points each.
The Lions scored the game's first point on a jumper from Addison with 19:11 left. Sheppard scored on a three for NSU the next trip down and the RiverHawks would lead from there on out. The lead reached as much as 14 points in the first half and 24 points in the second half.
NSU out scored the Lions 30-18 in the paint and the RiverHawks held a 15-6 advantage on points off of turnovers.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods jumped from No. 24 to No. 21 in the latest NABC top 25 rankings which were released Tuesday. The Ichabods picked up two road wins at Lincoln and at Lindenwood last week. Washburn now returns home for four straight and six of its next seven in Lee Arena. The Ichabods have been in the top 25 a total of 96 times since joining the NCAA ranks and they have been voted in the top 10 a total of 51 times since the 1989-90 season.
