Ichabods fill weekend at Lee Arena with Pink Out Friday and No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney Saturday
The 15th-ranked Ichabods will host Fort Hays State Friday at 7 p.m. at Schendel Court in Lee Arena and then host fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at 3 p.m. Washburn (13-3, 3-0 MIAA) enters the week on a six-match winning streak and is one of three undefeated schools in MIAA play.

The match Friday will be Washburn's annual Pink Out game and fans are encouraged to wear pink to help raise awareness for breast cancer. Fort Hays State lost its first nine matches of the year but has won three straight including a 3-1 victory against Northwest Missouri on Sunday. The Tigers enter the week at 9-3 and 1-4 in the MIAA.

Nebraska-Kearney is 13-1 and also 3-0 in the MIAA and will play at Emporia State Friday night before heading to Topeka.

Washburn went 3-0 last week with a sweep Tuesday against NWMSU in the home opener and then a 3-1 win Friday at Pittsburg State and a sweep Saturday at Southwest Baptist.

Marissa Cox was named the MIAA hitter of the week after hitting .316 with 4.20 kills a set. She had her first career double-double at PSU.

Abby Wittman became the fourth Washburn player to reach 3,000 career assists over the weekend. She is one ace away from being the 15th player with 100.

Wittman is fifth in career service attempts, now with 1722. She's 17th with 1,095 digs.

Kelsey Lewis is tied with Wittman for 17th in WU history with 1722 digs. She's eighth at Washburn with 3.49 career digs per set.

Washburn leads the MIAA with 19.27 digs a set.

Cox is fourth in the MIAA hitting .333 this year. She's third in kills with 3.85 a set. Leanna Willer is eighth with 3.14 kills a set.

Corrine Stringer has 902 kills during her career. She last played at PSU from 2009-10 and played at Kansas in 2008.

FHSU holds a 44-37 advantage in the all-time series but Washburn has won 15 straight, all since the Tigers joined the MIAA.

Washburn lost all three matches to Nebraska-Kearney last year and hasn't beat the Lopers since 1986. UNK leads the series 26-6.

Washburn was picked third in the MIAA preseason coaches poll and earned three of the 12 first-place votes.



Another Drop In The Polls
Despite 3-0 record last week, Ichabods drop two spots in latest AVCA poll
Even with a perfect 3-0 record last year, the Ichabods fell two spots once again, this time from 13th to 15th in the latest AVCA national poll released Monday.

Washburn (13-3, 3-0 MIAA) earned its 126th straight AVCA ranking, a streak that dates back to the start of the 2004 season.

Concordia St. Paul returned to the No. 1 position and Minnesota Duluth is second. Central Missouri earned three first place votes and moved to fourth in the country. Nebraska-Kearney, Washburn's opponent Saturday, is fifth.

Another Award For Cox
Cox repeats as MIAA hitter of the week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior rightside hitter Marissa Cox earned her second straight MIAA hitter of the week award and third this year as the conference honors were announced Monday.

Cox hit .316 in three wins last week and averaged 4.20 kills a set. She reached double figures in kills in each match and had her first career double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs Friday at PSU. She averaged 2.10 digs and 0.60 blocks a set as well during the week.

Washburn went 3-0 with a non-conference sweep over Northwest Missouri last Tuesday at home and MIAA wins on the road this weekend, 3-1 Friday at Pittsburg State and 3-0 Saturday at Central Oklahoma.

Cox averaged 4.22 kills a set and hit .389 two weeks ago to also earn the award and she won her first of the year on September 9 after the first week of action.

This is Washburn's fourth MIAA athlete of the week award as Abby Wittman was named specialist of the week last Monday.

Ichabods head to Joplin for weekend
Washburn will spend next weekend in Joplin, Mo., with an MIAA match Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. against Missouri Southern. The Ichabods will then play three matches the next two days at the MSSU Invite.
