11th-ranked Ichabods head to Northwest Missouri Friday & Missouri Western Saturday

No. 11 Washburn will look to bounce back from its first MIAA loss this year as it plays two MIAA matches on the road this weekend. The Ichabods (20-4, 7-1 MIAA) will play at Northwest Missouri Friday at 7 p.m. and then play at Missouri Western Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Ichabods swept Southwest Baptist last Friday to win their 13th straight match and then that streak ended Saturday in a 3-0 loss to then-No. 4 Central Missouri.

Northwest Missouri is 9-11 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA after losing twice last week. The Ichabods swept the Bearcats on September 24 earlier this year. Missouri Western is 11-12 and 4-5 in the MIAA and has lost two straight. The Griffons will host Pittsburg State Thursday before hosting Washburn on Saturday.

Washburn will play twice on the road this weekend. The Ichabods are 6-0 in true road games this year, losing just two sets in the six matches.

Corrine Stringer has 978 kills during her career, putting her 22 away from reaching 1,000. She played at PSU from 2009-10 and played at Kansas in 2008.

Washburn's win against UNK on Oct. 5 was its first against a top-five opponent since beating No. 1 Tampa in the 2007 NCAA national quarterfinal in Topeka.

Abby Wittman is 4th in career assists with 3,319 & needs 434 to move to third. She's 8th with 8.13 assists per set in her career and 14th with 105 service aces.

Wittman is 4th with 1,839 serve attempts and 17th with 1,174 digs.

Kelsey Lewis is 15th at Washburn with 1,210 digs and 6th with 3.56 per set.

WU is first in the MIAA with 18.83 digs per set and second allowing opponents to hit just .136 this year. The Ichabods are 3rd in attack percentage & in kills.

Cox is 4th in the MIAA with 3.59 kills/set and 6th with a .327 attack percentage. Willer is 8th with 3.34 kills/set, the highest freshman total.

Herron in 23-2 all-time against Northwest Missouri. Overall, Washburn is 39-19 all-time in the series. The Bearcats won in 2006 and 2010 at home against Washburn.

Herron has never lost to Missouri Western with a 21-0 record. Washburn trails the all-time series 43-34 but hasn't lost to the Griffons since 2001.



Ichabods Move Up Again
Ichabods jump to 11th in latest AVCA national poll
Washburn climbed in the polls for the third straight week with a jump from 12th to 11th in this week's AVCA national poll. This is Washburn's 129th straight ranking, a streak that dates back to the start of the 2004 season.

Central Missouri also moved up a spot to third and Nebraska-Kearney fell from eighth to ninth after a loss last weekend as the only other MIAA teams ranked. Concordia St. Paul remained first in the nation and in total, seven Central Region teams make up the top 17 teams in the nation.

Ichabods Second In MIAA Standings
Washburn will look to hold onto No. 2 spot and hope to catch UCM
The Ichabods enter the weekend all alone in second in the MIAA with a 7-1 record. Central Missouri remained undefeated after handing Washburn its only MIAA loss last weekend in the only match between the two this year.

Washburn will still play at third-place Nebraska-Kearney, ranked ninth in the nation, on November 12 and third-ranked Central Missouri will host UNK on November 15 in its final match of the regular season.

The top four teams in the MIAA host Nos. 5-8 in the first round of the postseason tournament November 19 and then the highest remaining seed hosts the semifinals November 22 and championship match on November 23.

Wittman climbs assists chart, Stringer nears 1,000 kills
Wittman is fourth in career assists at Washburn with 3,319 and she needs 434 to move to third and 596 to move to second. She's fourth at Washburn with 1,839 service attempts and 17th with 1,174 digs.

Corrine Stringer has 151 kills in her one year at Washburn. Adding her previous three years at Pittsburg State and Kansas, she has 978 career kills. She played at PSU from 2009-10 and at KU from 2008.
