Busy Week Ahead
Ichabods host Emporia State Wednesday then play triangular at Southwest Baptist
The 11th-ranked Ichabods will host Emporia State Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Schendel Court in Lee Arena and then head to Bolivar, Mo., for a non-conference triangular event Saturday. Washburn will play Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m. and then host school Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m. SBU and SAU will play at 11 a.m.
The Ichabods improved to 22-4 overall and 9-1 in the MIAA with a pair of wins on the road last week. Washburn swept Northwest Missouri Friday and then beat Missouri Western 3-1 on Saturday. Central Missouri lost its first match of the season to allow Washburn to move back into first place in the league.
Emporia State is 15-7 overall and 6-4 in the MIAA. The Hornets have won seven straight including an upset over then-No. 3 Central Missouri. Southwest Baptist is 14-10 overall and will host Central Missouri Wednesday and then play Southern Arkansas Saturday morning before Washburn plays. SAU is 14-10 and will play a pair of Great American Conference matches this week before heading to Bolivar. Washburn swept ESU and SBU earlier this year and hasn't played SAU since 2004.

Washburn moved back into first in the MIAA as Central Missouri lost its first match of the year. The Ichabods and Mules each have one loss.
Washburn remained 11th in this week's AVCA national poll. Overall, six of the top 11 teams in the nation are from Washburn's region.
Washburn swept ESU earlier this year in Emporia. Cox and Willer each reached double figures in kills and Willer added a double-double.
Washburn beat SBU 3-0 in Topeka earlier in October after surviving 16 SBU blocks. Jordan Nedbalek had 11. Willer led WU with 13 kills.
The Ichabods have won eight straight against ESU and have not lost to the Hornets since 2009. ESU last won against WU in Topeka in 2006.
Corrine Stringer got to 1,000 kills in her career last Saturday at Northwest Missouri. She played at PSU from 2009-10 and played at Kansas in 2008.
Abby Wittman is 4th in career assists with 3,402 & needs 351 to move to third. She's 8th with 8.20 assists per set in her career and 14th with 107 service aces.
Wittman is 4th with 1,869 serve attempts and 17th with 1,200 digs.
Kelsey Lewis is 14th at Washburn with 1,239 digs and 6th with 3.57 per set.
WU is first in the MIAA with 18.72 digs per set and second allowing opponents to hit just .136 this year. The Ichabods are 3rd in attack percentage & in kills.
Cox is 4th in the MIAA with 3.63 kills/set and 5th with a .336 attack percentage. Willer is 7th with 3.38 kills/set, the highest freshman total.
Herron is 19-6 against ESU, 21-0 against SBU and 1-0 against Southern Arkansas.
No Change On National Front
Washburn remains 11th in latest national poll
The Ichabods stayed put at 11th in this week's AVCA national poll. This is Washburn's 130th straight ranking, a streak that dates back to the start of the 2004 season.
Central Missouri lost for the first time this year and fell from third to fifth and Nebraska-Kearney jumped from ninth to seventh as the only other two MIAA teams in the ranking. Concordia St. Paul earned all 48 first-place votes and is No. 1. Overall, six of the top 11 teams in the nation are in the Central Region.
Ichabods Return To First
Washburn back in first with six MIAA games remaining
The Ichabods jumped back into first place after Central Missouri lost its first match of the year last year. Washburn is 9-1 in the MIAA while UCM is 8-1. Washburn must still play at third-place Nebraska-Kearney, ranked seventh in the nation, on November 12 and fifth-ranked Central Missouri will host UNK on November 15 in its final match of the regular season.
The top four teams in the MIAA host Nos. 5-8 in the first round of the postseason tournament November 19 and then the highest remaining seed hosts the semifinals November 22 and championship match on November 23.

Wittman climbs assists chart, Stringer nears 1,000 kills
Wittman is fourth in career assists at Washburn with 3,402 and she needs 351 to move to third and 513 to move to second. She's fourth at Washburn with 1,869 service attempts and 17th with 1,200 digs.
Corrine Stringer has 177 kills in her one year at Washburn. Adding her previous three years at Pittsburg State and Kansas, she has 1,004 career kills. She played at PSU from 2009-10 and at KU from 2008.
