Washburn soccer team set to face Griffons and Bearcats this weekend

First touch
• The Washburn Ichabod soccer team returns to the road for the first time since Sept. 14 when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to take on Missouri Western on Friday night before facing Northwest Missouri in Yager Stadium on Sunday at 2 p.m.
• The Ichabods (5-5-0, 2-2-1 MIAA) ran their unbeaten streak to three matches last week going 1-0-1 topping Fort Hays State 2-1 before tying Nebraska-Kearney in double overtime in a 0-0 draw.
• The Ichabods are currently in a three-way tie for fourth place in the MIAA standings. The top six teams in the final standings will advance to the MIAA Postseason Tournament.
• The three-game unbeaten streak is the longest for the Ichabods since a four-game unbeaten streak including a  three-game winning streak from Sept. 18 to Sept. 30 during the 2010 season when they went 3-0-1.
• Washburn's five wins this season is equal to the number of wins the Ichabods had during the 2012 (4) and 2011 (1) seasons combined.
• The 0-0 double overtime tie was the first for the Ichabods since a scoreless 110-minute match against Southwest Baptist on Sept. 27, 2007.

Story lines
• Danielle Curtis is tied for the team lead with three goals along with Brianna Ament.
• Curtis, Ament and Kate Combs are share the team lead with six points overall.
• Combs, Devon Schmitz, Bailey Wobig and Whitney Skinner have two goals each.
• Caysie Beetley has a team-high three assists and a goal this season for five points.
• Tori Fuglister has played all 1028:44 in goal this season allowing 11 goals and a 0.96 goal against average recording 48 saves with a .814 save percentage.
• Of the 19 goals scored by the Ichabods this season, six have been recorded by freshmen.
• Six of the seniors (Taylor Mayhew, Caysie Beetley, Rachel Hansen, Danielle Curtis, Megan Buckley, and Kelsey Ewert) have been part of the program for  four years.
• Senior Lara Doescher has been a two-year member of the team and her sister Kaitlyn Doescher will play her final season at Washburn after transferring from St. Louis.
• One senior (Brianna Ament) has been a five-year member of the team after taking a medical redshirt in 2009. 

What's in a name
• Starting this season all of the women's athletic teams will be called Ichabods.
• All women's teams prior to the 2013-14 school year can and will be referenced to as Lady Blues.
• Name change was made to have a unified athletic department and to have a graphical representation of the sports teams at Washburn.
• 'Bods is allowable on second reference
• Lady Ichabods or Lady 'Bods should never be used.

Noting Missouri Western
• Missouri Western is 2-8-1 overall this season and 0-4-0 in MIAA play.
• The Griffons are winless in their last seven matches going 0-6-1.
• Their last win was a 1-0 victory against Wayne State.
• Tara Russell has four of the Griffons' six goals this season.
• Ashley Juravich has the other two goals.
• Sarah Lyle is 2-6-1 in net with two shutouts with a 2.06 goal against average.

Series history with Missouri Western
• The Ichabods lead the all-time series 10-5-0.
• Washburn snapped a three-game winning streak by the Griffons with a 2-0 win in Topeka last season on Oct. 5.
• Washburn is 4-3 in matches played in St. Joseph.
• The Ichabods have outscored the Griffons 37 to 11 in the 15 meetings.

Noting Northwest Missouri
• The Bearcats are 3-6-1 this season going 1-3-0 in MIAA play.
• Anna Calgaard has four goals and two assists pacing the Bearcats with 10 points.
• Three other players have two goals each.
• Kelsey Adams is 3-6 in net with a 1.33 goal against average collecting 53 saves.
Series history with Northwest Missouri
• The Ichabods lead the all-time series 11-4-3, but have lost the last two meetings.
• Washburn's last win came in a 3-0 win on Oct. 23, 2010.
• Washburn has outscored the Bearcats 30 to 17 overall and they are 6-1-2 against the Bearcats in Topeka.

Last time out for Washburn
(10/6/2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods remained unbeaten in their last three games as they played to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday afternoon in Yager Stadium. 
Both team had 12 shots in the match, but the Ichabods were held without a shot in either of the overtime periods while the Lopers were able to get off two shots with one on goal in the first extra frame.
Tori Fuglister picked up the complete-game shutout for the Ichabods recording five saves in the match. The Lopers' Katelin Mielke had one save.
Caysie Beetley led the Ichabods with four shots and Kate Combs recorded three shots.

Washburn Soccer history
• Washburn is 86-93-30 (.492) all-time in its 11th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 58-59-20 (.512). 
• In home matches, the Ichabods are 44-34-14 (.554).
• On the road, the Ichabods are 35-52-12 (.416).
• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-7-4 (.500). 

Record watch
• Caysie Beetley has moved into the top 10 all-time at Washburn on the career point chart with 28 points with 10 goals and eight assists in 49 matches played.
• Beetley's goal against Southwest Baptist was her 10th of her career and moved her into the top 10 on the all-time goals scored chart at Washburn. … with two more goals she can move into a tie for ninth.
• Tori Fuglister's 188 career saves is third on the career list at Washburn.

Quick kicks
• Washburn improved to 21-70-7 when its opponents score first. Washburn was down 1-0 to start the FHSU match.
• Washburn is now 49-9-4 when leading at the half.
• Washburn is now 9-10-28 in overtime matches after the double overtime tie with Nebraska-Kearney.

Up next
The Ichabods will return to Topeka to take on Northwest Missouri on Oct. 13 in Topeka. Washburn will then take on Lindenwood in a road match in St. Charles on Oct. 20 before facing Emporia State on Oct. 23 in a non-conference match up. Washburn will then honor its seniors on Oct. 25 against Missouri Southern before wrapping up the regular season with road contests at Central Oklahoma on Nov. 1 and Northeastern State on Nov. 3. The MIAA postseason tournament starts on Nov. 7 and the top six teams in the final conference standings will advance to postseason play.
