Washburn is tied for 1st with MIAA in the loss column while UCM has one more win. Washburn has 5 conference games remaining and UCM has four.
The Ichabods clinched a spot in the MIAA postseason tournament and one more win will clinch a home match 11/19 in the first round.
Seniors Churchman, Lewis, McHenry, Stringer and Wittman, as well as junior Brophy will play their final regular season home match with Senior Day Saturday.
Brophy ended her season due to injury and won't return next year.
WU swept FHSU and UCO earlier this year and beat PSU in four. PSU was the last of those 3 teams to beat WU, doing so in 2008.
Washburn remained 11th in this week's AVCA national poll. Overall, six of the top 11 teams in the nation are from Washburn's region.
Chris Herron has now won at least 25 matches in all 12 of his seasons. Coming into the year, he's won at least 30 in six straight seasons.
Abby Wittman is 4th in career assists with 3,517 & needs 236 to move to third. She's 8th with 8.29 assists per set in her career and 14th with 110 service aces.
Wittman is 3rd with 1,917 serve attempts and 15th with 1,238 digs.
Besides Wittman, only one Washburn setter has at least 2,000 career assists and 1,000 digs (Kate Hampson from 2006-09).
Kelsey Lewis is 14th at Washburn with 1,273 digs and 6th with 3.58 per set.
WU is first in the MIAA with 18.80 digs per set and second allowing opponents to hit just .133 this year. The Ichabods are 3rd in attack percentage & in kills.
Cox is 4th in the MIAA with 3.60 kills/set and 4th with a .341 attack percentage. Willer is 7th with 3.38 kills/set, the highest freshman total.
Road Trip Then Senior Day Up Next
Ichabods play at Fort Hays Tuesday then two at home with Senior Day this weekend
The 11th-ranked Ichabods head to Fort Hays State Tuesday at 7 p.m. to resume MIAA action and begin the final stretch of the regular season. Washburn will then return home to host Pittsburg State Friday at 7 p.m. at Schendel Court in Lee Arena and then host Central Oklahoma Saturday at 6 p.m. The UCO game will be the final home match of the regular season and Washburn will honor its six seniors before the match.
Just two road MIAA matches will remain on the schedule after this week.
The Ichabods swept three opponents last week to improve to 25-4 overall and 10-1 in the MIAA. They are tied for first in the conference standings and have clinched a spot in the MIAA postseason tournament. One more win will clinch a home match in the tournament opener on November 19.
All three of Washburn's opponents this week are still looking to clinch MIAA postseason spots. FHSU is 12-15 and 3-10 in the MIAA. The Tigers started the year 0-9 and have since gone 12-6. Pitt State is 15-12 overall and 5-7 in the league and UCO is 19-8 overall and 7-6 in conference play. The Bronchos play at Emporia State Friday before coming to Topeka.
No Change On National Front
Ichabods still 11th in national poll
Washburn stayed 11th in the nation as the top 19 schools in the AVCA poll remained unchanged Monday. The Ichabods swept three opponents last week to improve to 25-4 overall and they're tied for first in the MIAA at 10-1. This is their third straight time being ranked 11th and this is Washburn's 131st straight ranking, a streak that dates back to the start of the 2004 season.
Concordia St. Paul got all 48 first-place votes to remain first. Central Missouri is fifth and Nebraska-Kearney is seventh as the other two MIAA teams in the ranking. Overall, six of the top 11 teams in the nation are in the Central Region. Â
Ichabods Still Atop MIAA Standings
Washburn and UCM only one-loss teams as season nears end
The Ichabods and Central Missouri remained the only two one-loss teams in the MIAA but the Jennies are a match ahead in the win column. They will play just twice this week while Washburn plays three times. They both will play third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney in the final week of the regular season. Washburn plays there on November 12 and Central Missouri will host UNK on November 15 in its final match of the regular season.
The top four teams in the MIAA host Nos. 5-8 in the first round of the postseason tournament November 19 and then the highest remaining seed hosts the semifinals November 22 and championship match on November 23.

Two matches on the road will wrap up regular season
The regular season will wrap up with two matches on the road next week. Washburn will play at Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday, November 12 at 7 p.m. and then play Saturday, November 15 at Lindenwood at 7 p.m. The MIAA postseason tournament will start the next week.
