TOPEKA, Kan. – Lindenwood made seven of its first nine 3-pointers to help build a 22-point lead midway through the first half and lead 44-28 at halftime. The Ichabods shot 59 percent in the second half but never overcame the Lions deficit in an 85-80 loss Sunday afternoon at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
 
The Ichabods fell to 6-4 and 2-2 in the MIAA. They will now take off 13 days for the holidays and resume action January 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Missouri Western.
 
Casyn Buchman tied her career high with 27 points. She shot 12 of 23 from the field and was 10 of 14 in the second half where she scored 23 of her points. She also led Washburn with nine rebounds and five assists.
 
Washburn trailed the entire game after the 18:15 mark of the first half but nearly erased the Lions' 22-point lead late in the game.
 
Buchman's seventh straight point with 2:32 left in the game cut Lindenwood's lead to a point at 75-74. The teams then traded field goals three times after that. Taylor Ignoto's layup with 23 seconds left got Washburn within a point again but the Lions scored the final four points on free throws to hold on.

The Ichabods lost to the Lions for the first time after three previous meetings. This is Lindenwood's second year in the MIAA and as an NCAA II school.
 
Lindenwood (8-3, 3-1 MIAA) shot 50 percent from the field and 50 percent (12 of 24) from 3-point range. Kassidy Gengenbacher's fifth 3-pointer of the game at the 8:00 mark of the first half gave the Lions a game-high 22-point lead. She ended the first half 6 of 9 from long range.
 
Washburn trailed 12-6 four minutes in and then went 5:22 without scoring. The Lions built their lead into double figures during Washburn's draught and kept it that way until the 9:04 mark of the second half when Taylor Ignoto hit a 3-pointer to get her team within nine.
 
Ignoto ended with 23 points in just her second game at Washburn. She was 6 of 13 off the bench with three 3-pointers. Honor Duvall joined Ignoto off the bench in double figures with 14 points. She was 5 of 8 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free throw line. Brittney Lynch blocked four shots and had six rebounds.
 
Washburn shot just 31 percent in the first half to end the game shooting 46 percent. The Ichabods went 0 of 9 from 3-point range in the first half and 4 of 7 in the second half. The Ichabods won the rebound battle 37-31 and had 11 turnovers while the Lions had 10.
 
Gengenbacher led the Lions with 23 points as she finished 6 of 10 from 3-point range. Jenny Rocha had 16 points with a 7 of 10 performance from the field. She also had a game-high seven assists.
