12 days of Christmas break come to end as Bods resume action at Missouri Western
The Ichabods will return to action after 12 days off for the holiday break with a game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Missouri Western.
Washburn ended the 2013 portion of the schedule with an 85-80 loss on December 22 to Lindenwood. The Ichabods are 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA. The Griffons started the season 4-0 but have since gone 0-5 to fall to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA.

Casyn Buchman leads the MIAA and the Ichabods with 21.2 points a game after tying her career high with 27 points against Lindenwood. She's reached double figures in every game.
Brittney Lynch is second in the MIAA with 9.5 rebounds a game and she nearly averages a double-double with 11.2 points a game.
McHenry nears 200th MIAA win
Washburn head coach
Ron McHenry returns for his 14th season at Washburn with the highest winning percentage among active NCAA II coaches with at least 10 years at four-year schools.
McHenry is 348-75 (.823) overall and he will need just two more conference wins to get his 200th MIAA victory. He's 198-48 (.805) in MIAA games.
McHenry is a four-time MIAA coach of the year and he has eight MIAA regular season titles. He's been to 12 straight NCAA tournaments and he coached Washburn to an NCAA II national title in 2004-05. He started the year second all-time in NCAA II history among coaches with at least 10 years with an .828 winning percentage. Lloyd Clark holds the record with an .834 winning percentage at Delta State from 1984-2002.
Washburn drops out of national poll
The Ichabods went 1-1 on the road before the Week 4 poll and dropped out of that USA Today Sports national poll. They were also absent from the following poll, the last before the break.
Washburn was ranked in 176 of the last 177 polls, dating back to week three of the 2002-03 season. The final poll of the 2010-11 season was the last time Washburn was not ranked before these last two polls.
Emporia State is the highest ranked MIAA team with a No. 3 ranking after a 9-0 start to the season. The Ichabods and Hornets won't play until February as they battle February 5 in Topeka and February 22 in Emporia.
Central Missouri is fifth in the poll and Washburn will travel to UCM January 6. Previous non-conference opponent Nova Southeastern is fourth in the nation and Drury is sixth.
Quick history review
In Washburn's 44 years of basketball since 1969-70, the Ichabods are 829-360-1 (.697) in 1190 games. They have 13 MIAA regular season titles and nine tournament titles since joining the league in 1989-90.
Thirty all-America awards have been won between 16 different players and Washburn has seven MIAA MVPs and 22 MIAA first-teamers.
The Ichabods won the 2004-05 NCAA II national title and set an NCAA II record with a 51-game winning streak stretching from 2004-05 into the 2005-06 season. Guard Jennifer Harris was the NCAA II player of the year in 2005-06 and was the No. 20 pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft.
Buchman keeps setting career highs
Junior guard
Casyn Buchman entered the year with a career high of 13 points set last season against Emporia State. She has since topped that in all eight games this year with a new career high of 27 December 5 at Southwest Baptist and again on December 22 against Lindenwood.
Buchman set a career high with 11 rebounds November 26 against Benedictine with her first career double-double. She added 19 points that game.
Buchman near the top in several MIAA categories
Junior guard
Casyn Buchman entered the final week before the break leading the MIAA with 20.5 points game and a .969 free throw percentage. She was 16th in rebounding, third in assists and first in minutes played. All together, she was ranked in 11 different MIAA statistical categories.
Buchman's free throw streak comes to an end at 32 straight
Casyn Buchman flirted with a school and MIAA record as she entered the December 19 game against Lincoln with 29 straight made free throws. The record of 36 straight was set by Washburn's Nikki Olberding in 1997-98.
Buchman made her first three to extend the streak to 32 straight but missed one after that, her first miss since November 16.
Lynch nearly averaging a double-double
Junior forward
Brittney Lynch leads the team and was second in the MIAA with 9.9 rebounds a game and she nearly averages a double-double as she has 12.0 points a game. Lynch has scored in double figures in all but two games this year and has reached 10 or more rebounds five times with four double-doubles.
She set career highs on December 5 with 20 points and 17 rebounds at Southwest Baptist.
Coming up next
The Ichabods will stay on the road with a game on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Central Missouri. Washburn has won four straight in Warrensburg and 10 of the last 11 overall against the Jennies.
Washburn will then host Oklahoma Christian on January 9 in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
