BOLIVAR, Mo. –
Brittney Lynch set career highs with 20 points and 17 rebounds Thursday as the 20th-ranked Ichabods won their MIAA opener 78-71 at Southwest Baptist.
Washburn improved to 5-2 and won its seventh straight conference opener and 12th straight game against SBU. The Ichabods will continue conference action Saturday at Missouri Southern at 1 p.m.

Lynch tied Jennifer Butcher's total of 17 rebounds set in 2001 and it's the most since single-game statistics were first archived in 1999-00. The school record is 23 set by Brenda Shaffer-Dahl in 1990-91.

Lynch shot 7 of 12 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free throw line. She pulled in six offensive rebounds and 11 defensive boards.

Casyn Buchman led Washburn with a career high 27 points as she was perfect from the free throw line at 8 of 8 for a fourth straight time. She has made 27 straight free throws dating back to November 16.

The Ichabods led by a game-high nine points with 3:15 remaining but the Bearcats scored six straight to pull within three points at the one-minute mark. The two teams traded baskets after that then Washburn made six of six free throw attempts in the last 24 seconds to hold off SBU. Buchman made four of them and
Dana Channel made two.

Honor Duvall and
Kara Lee also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Lee was 5 of 7 from the field. Buchman led Washburn with six assists and Travis had five.

Washburn shot 43 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line. The Bearcats were 36 percent from the field. Washburn won in rebounds, 49-40 and had 12 turnovers while SBU had 10.

The two teams were tied at 37-37 at halftime and Washburn didn't take the lead for good until the 7:11 mark of the second half on a layup from Duvall that gave the Bods a 59-58 lead.

Dilonna Johnson led the Bearcats (3-3) with 19 points as she and Duncan Brook each made four 3-pointers.
