Eight-run third inning in game 2 enough for Ichabods to win series over Truman

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabods scored 16 runs in the first three innings of game two and held off Truman the final six innings to win the series finale, 16-11 Sunday afternoon at Falley Field. The Bulldogs took the doubleheader opener, 8-1 but Washburn won the three-game series, two games to one.

The Ichabods will play their first midweek games with an MIAA doubleheader Wednesday at Fort Hays State starting at 1:30 p.m.

Riley Price went 3 for 4 at the plate in game two with five RBI. Two RBI came off a single during Washburn's six-run second inning and two more RBI came off a double in the third when Washburn plated eight runs to go up 16-0.

The Bulldogs answered with six runs in the fourth and went on to score 11 total unanswered runs. Three different Ichabods pitched in relief with Connor Brady picking up the win. He went two innings and allowed a run off two hits.Starter AJ Green left with the lead after four innings but didn't pitch long enough to qualify for the win. He gave up six runs off five hits with a strikeout.

Dakota Kell had a two-run double in the second and Connor Crimmins had a two-run single in the third.

Parker Gibson led off the first for Washburn with a single and then Taylor Herrington tripled to left field to drive him in. Riley Price followed with a single for his first RBI of the game.

Washburn ended with 13 hits while Truman had 14. Parker, Kell and Tyler Bailey each had two hits for Washburn and Herrington and Gibson scored three times each.

The Bulldogs and Ichabods were tied at 1-1 in the first game before Truman scored one run in the third and fourth innings and five in the fifth. They had seven hits that game while starter Logan Siegler held Washburn to a run off three hits. He struck out five in six innings.

Kell led off the second inning with a single then later scored on a sacrifice fly by David Gauntt for Washburn's only run.
