MONTICELLO, Ark. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softball team wrapped up the Arkansas-Monticello Classic with a 1-1 day topping Ouachita Baptist 4-3 before falling to Henderson State 4-3 in the nightcap. Washburn will return to action at the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament next weekend.

In the opener against the Tigers, Washburn scored an unearned run in the first as Katie Schroeder led off the game with a double and scored on a double by Amanda Kirkhart. Washburn held the lead until the third inning when the Tigers tied the score at 1-1.

The Lady Blues regained the lead in the fourth inning scoring a paiir of runs as Deidra Jones scored Lauren Thimmesch who singled in the frame and Skyler Gentry doubled to plate Kristen Bell who doubled earlier.

Washburn added another run when Jones hit a double scoring Bell with Washburn's fourth run of the game. OBU added one more in the top of the seventh, but came up short in the 4-3 loss.

Thimmesch picked up the win striking out six Tiger batters allowing two earned runs scattering six hits.

Box score stats from the 4-3 loss to Henderson State were not available nor were the stats from Saturday's game with Henderson State. They will be updated as they become available.
