DURANT, Okla. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softballt team dropped its first two games of the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational falling 5-3 to the host squad before losing to Drury 7-1. Washburn (2-4) will return to action with two more games on Saturday starting at noon when they will face Cameron and Southern Nazarene.
Game 1 - Southeastern Oklahoma 5, Washburn 3
The Lady Blues fell behind 3-0 in the first inning after Southeastern took the early lead. In the third inning, Washburn tied the score with three runs of its own in the top of the third after
Amanda Kirkhart doubled scoring
Marina Quimby who led off the inning with a walk.
Alex Zordel hit her 23rd career home run to tie the score at three each. Washburn's lead was short-lived as SOSU score a solo run in the bottom of the third and one more in the fifth taking the 5-3 run. Washburn left five base runners on the remainder of the game. Kirkhart finished 2 for 4 in the game with an RBI. Quimby (0-3) took the loss while striking out six.
Game 2 - Drury 7, Washburn 1
Washburn broke a scoreless tie the bottom of the fourth inning when
Deidra Jones singled and was chased home by a double by
Kristen Bell to put Washburn up 1-0. However in the bottom of the frame, Drury took advantage of three Lady Blues errors scoring five unearned runs taking a 5-1 lead. The Panthers added two more in the top of the sixth with one going down as an earned run as Drury finished the game with 10 hits in the game. Kirkhart,
Katie Schroeder, Zordel, Jones and Bell all had hits for Washburn as
Lauren Thimmesch (2-1) allowed only two earned runs striking out six in the game.
