PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Washburn and Pittsburg State split identical 5-1 decisions in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Al Ortolani Field.

The loss in the first game pushed Washburn's losing streak to five games but the win in the second game, after a one-hour weather delay, pushed the Ichabods to 3-6 this year and 3-6 in the MIAA. The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a game Saturday at 1 p.m. A chance of rain in the afternoon may move to start time ahead.

With the score tied at 1-1, Taylor Herrington led off the fifth inning of game two with a triple and then scored the go-ahead run on a double by Parker Gibson.

Washburn starter Drew Ridley then gave up just three more hits in the next three innings to earn a win and move to 1-1. He allowed six hits and one unearned run in seven total innings with seven strikeouts. He walked two in Washburn's most solid start of the season.

Zach Haller scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to give Ridley a 3-1 cushion. Mark Biesma took the mound in the eighth and got the save as he kept the Gorillas (7-4, 5-4 MIAA) hitless the final two earnings to pick up his first save.

Washburn added two runs in the top of the ninth when David Gauntt doubled in Gibson and Corey Gragg after they both singled. Gibson ended 3 for 5 in the game and Gauntt had two hits.

The Ichabods got on the board in the second inning when Connor Crimmins was hit by a pitch then scored on an error. The Gorillas tied it in the bottom of the second off two singles and an error.

The Ichabods scored first in the opening game when Brad Alberts doubled to lead off the second inning then scored on a wild pitch. The Gorillas tied it in the fourth then scored three in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Alberts took the loss as he went all six innings on the mound. He allowed nine hits and struck out five with two walks. Washburn got just three hits.
