EDMOND, Okla. -- The Washburn Lady Blues were swept in an MIAA doubleheader falling to the No. 8-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos. Washburn will return to action again back in Oklahoma when they travel to Alva to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State in non-conference play on Tuesday.
In the opener, Washburn fell behind 8-0 after four innings, but scored four in the fifth and four more in the sixth inning but it wasn't enough as they fell 11-8.
Katie Schroeder had four of Washburn's eight hits and scored two runs.
Lauren Thimmesch drove in three with her eighth home run of the season and
Alex Zordel drove in two as did
Shelby Erickson.
In the second game, Washburn scored one in the first when Schroeder led off the game with a single and later scored on a double by Zordel. UCO came back with four in the bottom of the first and then Washburn took the lead with five in the second to take a 6-4 lead helped by a three-run homer by Zordel who finished with four RBI in the second game.
Deidra Jones also homered in the inning. UCO added three in the bottom of the second and Washburn scored one more in the top of the third on a home run by Erickson. But in the bottom of the third, the flood gates opened as the Bronchos scored nine times sending 12 to the plate in the inning taking the 16-7 lead.
Schroeder was a perfect 7 for 7 in the doubleheader scoring four times with a double and driving in two. Zordel had three hits and drove in six and score three times in the two games.
