Leading Off...
Washburn is starting a five-game road trip and will play six of the last nine away from home as there are just two weeks remaining in the regular season.
WU has had 8 games canceled due to snow including 5 MIAA games that can't be made up.
Of the 24 dates on the schedule so far this year, only five of them have had their games played at the originally-scheduled date, time and location.
Taylor Gentry earned the victory in three of Washburn's last four wins. He's 3-0 this year with a 2.12 ERA in 8 total appearances. He has a 28/10 strikeout/walk ratio.
Riley Price is 13th in the MIAA hitting .393 this year. He's hit safely in 26 of 34 games and is looking to become the first WU batter to hit over .400 since Wes Joy in 2007.
Connor Crimmins is 8th in the MIAA with 12 stolen bases. He's been thrown out once.
Washburn leads the MIAA with 18 triples, six more than second-ranked Pittsburg State.
Taylor Herrington leads the league with 7 triples to tie for the second highest total in school history.
Head coach Steve Anson coached his 1,600th career game on February 19 at Fort Hays State. He's gone 839-789-3 in 35 seasons with 34 at Washburn and one at Wayne State (Neb.).
UCO leads the series with Washburn 16-15 but the two haven't played since 1997.
Connor Brady made his first career start last Sunday and got a win over SBU. He went all 7 innings and struck out 11 batters, tying for the 6th highest total in school history.
Washburn beat SBU twice Sunday in walk-off fashion.
Kyle Carnahan had a game-winning double in the first game and he scored the game-winner in the second game on a single from
Riley Price.
The wins game Washburn its first doubleheader sweep of the year.
Ichabods begin final MIAA road trip this weekend at Central Oklahoma
With nine games remaining on the schedule, the Ichabods will head to Central Oklahoma this weekend for a three-game series. The two teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and then a single game Sunday at 12 p.m. to wrap up the series.
Washburn is 9-26 this year and 8-25 in the MIAA after splitting its games with Fort Hays State and Southwest Baptist last week. The Ichabods and Tigers split a doubleheader Thursday and Washburn and SBU traded doubleheader sweeps over the weekend.
Central Oklahoma is 22-16 overall and 18-15 in the MIAA. The Bronchos had their only games last week, a doubleheader with Missouri Southern, canceled due to weather. They will host Hillsdale Baptist Thursday before hosting Washburn this weekend.
Washburn and UCO are meeting for the first time since 1997 as the Bronchos are in their first year in the MIAA.
Gentry continues to impress in starting role
Junior pitcher
Taylor Gentry earned three of Washburn's last four wins. His win last Thursday against Fort Hays State gave him his third straight in as many starts. He went all six innings and gave up three runs off eight hits with six strikeouts. Overall, he has a 2.12 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 10 walks.
He also has wins in starts against Nebraska-Kearney and Northwest Missouri as he went seven innings in each game and allowed just one earned run.
Gentry was named the MIAA pitcher of the week earlier this year after pitching over five innings of scoreless relief March 23 as Washburn came back from a 6-2 deficit to beat the third-ranked Mules.
Stoothoff enters Washburn lineup in outfield
Freshman outfielder
John Stoothoff made his first appearance in a game March 29 against Northeastern State with a start and he's started each of the last 13 games.
He's batting .261 with a home run, two RBI and six runs scored. He's had multiple hits in five games.
Head Coach Steve Anson beginning his 34th season at Washburn
Washburn head coach Steve Anson reached a career milestone with his 800th win as the Ichabods coach last year and he's in his 34th season at Washburn with an 813-787-3 (.515) record.
Anson, the winningest coach in the MIAA, is 839-789-3 (.515) in 35 seasons overall as a head coach after coaching the 1979 season at Wayne State (Neb.) and then starting at Washburn in 1980.
He was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, and is a 1976 graduate of Kansas State where he still holds the Wildcats' career record with 19 triples.
Last time out- Ichabods win twice in walk-off fashion; Brady strikes out 11
TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabods came from behind with three runs in the bottom of the ninth in the opener against Southwest Baptist and then broke a tie in the bottom of the seventh as they swept the Bearcats Sunday at Falley Field.
Washburn won the opener, an MIAA game, 9-8 and took the second game, a non-conference game, 3-2.
Washburn trailed 8-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth of game one.
Taylor Herrington and
Tyler Bailey led things off with pinch hit singles and
Corey Gragg drove in Herrington with a single as Bailey moved to third on an outfield error.
Parker Gibson's sacrifice bunt to the right side of the infield scored Bailey to tie the game and moved Gragg into scoring position.
Kyle Carnahan then drove the first pitch he saw to left field for a game-winning double.
In the second game, Washburn starter
Connor Brady gave up a game-tying home run in the top of the seventh. With one out in the bottom of inning,
Parker Gibson walked and then stole second base.
Kyle Carnahan moved him to third with a single and he scored the winner on a single to right by
Riley Price.
Making his first career start, Brady went all seven innings in the second game and struck out a career-high 11 batters. That total tied for sixth in school single-game history and it was the first time an Ichabod struck out at least 10 batters since Zach Engelken fanned 10 on April 4, 2008 against Pittsburg State.
Brady gave up the solo shot in the seventh and an unearned run in the third. He allowed four hits and walked none.
Washburn also got a big strikeout performance from
Brad Alberts in the first game as he struck out nine through 6 1/3 innings. He walked three and earned no decision.
Greg Mason took his place in the seventh and closed out the game to get his first win of the year (1-2).
After getting shut out twice on Saturday by SBU, Washburn ended 19 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings with four runs in the fourth of the first game.

Connor Crimmins each drove in runs with singles.
Washburn added two more in the fifth on singles from Gragg and Gibson.
Gibson ended the game 2 for 4 with three RBI and Gragg was 3 for 4 with two driven in. The Ichabods ended with 16 hits while SBU (16-21, 14-15) had 13.
Each team managed just four hits in the second game. SBU scored first in the top of the third and Washburn took the lead in the bottom of the inning when Price drove in a run with and infield single and
Brad Alberts groundout drove in Carnahan.
Brady struck out the side in the sixth and struck out two batters in each of the fifth and seventh innings.
