MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues were swept in a pair of games at Northwest Missouri falling 6-0 and 15-6. Washburn will return to play on Tuesday at Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
In the opener, the Bearcats scored one in the first inning and then added three more in the fourth with solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 6-0 win. Washburn recorded three singles in the game. One each by
Alex Zordel,
Deidra Jones and
Haylee Marsteller.
Lauren Thimmesch took the loss striking out three allowing five earned runs.
In the nightcap, Northwest sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning as the Bearcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Washburn scored two in the third when Zordel and
Shelby Erickson picked up an RBI each. After Northwest added seven more in the bottom of the third inning, Washburn came back with four in the top of the fourth capped by a two-run homer by Thimmesch.
Lauren Byrn had a home run and Marsteller drew a bases loaded walk in the inning. The Bearcats added two in the bottom of the fourth pushing the lead to nine and the game ended after the Lady Blues were scoreless in the fifth. Bryn finished with two hits as did Jones in the game.
