Lady Blues set to finish season with six games over three days

Weekly Notes

Warm ups . . . 
The Washburn Lady Blues will wrap up their six-date, 12-game roadtrip this Thursday when they travel to Bolivar, Mo., to face the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Washburn will then return home the following day to finish the seeason hosting Truman on April 26 and Lindenwood on April 27. Between games of the Lindenwood doubleheader, Alex Zordel will be honored as part of senior day festivities. The Lady Blues are looking to snap a 11-game losing streak. 
Know the foes . . . 
• Southwest Baptist is 4-42 this season and 0-22 in MIAA play.
• The Bearcats have lost their last 36 games.
• SBU's last win came on Feb. 23 in a 5-2 win over Miles College.
• Washburn is 43-7 all-time against the Bearcats and have won the last six in the series.
• Truman is 25-15 this season and 13-11 in MIAA play and they have won  three straight games coming into the doubleheader with Washburn.
• The Bulldogs' last game was on April 21 against Nebraska-Kearney when they swept a doubleheader from the Lopers winning 6-0 and 4-3.
• Washburn leads the series 34-30 and have won three of the last four.
• Lindenwood is 19-25 and 10-14 in MIAA play.
• The Lions have an April 24 doubleheader against Fontbonne.
• Washburn leads the all-time series 3-0 with the Lions.
Blue Notes . . . 
• #3 Kristen Bell -- Started all 70 career games she has played in.
• #4 Katie Schroeder -- Has one of Washburn's two four-hit games this season.
• #5 Marina Quimby -- Has tossed 12 complete games this season in 21 starts.
• #6 Lauren Byrn -- Had first RBI against Missouri Western last weekend.
• #7 Amanda Kirkhart -- Her nine doubles leads the team and her 10 walks is second on the team.
• #8 Kayla Oldham -- Will miss the 2013 season with an injury.
• #9 Haylee Marsteller -- Has started 25 of 26 games played this season.
• #10 Deidra Jones -- Leads the team with a .416 batting average with 42 hits … batting .491 in MIAA play.
• #12 Tori Gloudeman -- Has made three starts collecting two hits.
• #13 Skyler Gentry -- Has started 39 games this season at three different positions.
• #15 Leah Garland -- Has started 19 of 23 games this season.
• #16 Lauren Thimmesch -- Leads the team with 10 home runs and third on the team with 26 RBI.
• #22 Shelby Erickson -- Second on the team with 27 RBI batting .294 starting all 38 games.
• #23 Alex Zordel -- Her 107 RBI rank tied for 10th all-time at Washburn and her 28 home runs are fifth all-time at Washburn.
Rewind - stats and notes from the week which was
• Washburn was 0-6 last week going 0-4 in MIAA play.
Deidra Jones had a team-high six hits going 6 for 15 with a .400 batting average collecting three doubles.
Alex Zordel had five hits with 5 RBI during the week.
Slap hits. . . 
Katie Schroeder is the 12th-toughest player in the NCAA Division II to strike out in the latest rankings as she has only been called out on strikes three times in 126 at bats.
• Schroeder is also 26th in the nation in being hit by pitches with a team-high 10 times.
Deidra Jones leads the Lady Blues with 11 multi-hit games.
Shelby Erickson, Alex Zordel and Haylee Marsteller have the only 4 RBI games this season for the Lady Blues. Zordel has three of the six the Lady Blues have recorded.
• Washburn has been outscored 51 to 16 in the sixth inning of games this season.
• Washburn is 0-18 when scoring fewer than three runs in games this season.
• The Lady Blues have hit 21 of their 39 home runs this season in home games at the Washburn Softball Complex.
Lady Blues head coach Vanessa Becerra 
• was named the Washburn Lady Blues head softball coach on Aug. 3, 2011 after spending four seasons at Metro State in Denver, Colo., with the final season coming as the head coach. 
• is 28-57 in her second season on the bench at Washburn and overall Becerra has recorded a 62-76 mark in her third year as a head coach.
• in her lone season as the head coach at Metro State, Becerra led the Roadrunners the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championship while advancing to the NCAA regional tournament for the third-straight season finishing with a 34-18 record. 
• has coached three Lady Blues to all-MIAA honors.
• has had 12 Lady Blues named to the MIAA's Academic Honor Roll.
Lady Blues softball history. . . 
• The Lady Blues are 1043-764-1 in their 44th year of softball. 
• The Lady Blues have made three NCAA Tournament appearances (1999, 2006, 2008). 
• Washburn won the 2002 regular season MIAA title.
Up Next . . . 
Washburn will travel to Bolivar, Mo., for a twinbill at Southwest Baptist on April 25 in a make up from a rain out earlier in the season. Washburn will then return home to wrap up the regular season on April 26 and April 27 when they will face Truman and Lindenwood in back-to-back dates. Washburn's lone senior Alex Zordel will be honored on Saturday between games.
