TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Lady Blues wrapped up the season with a 12-4 loss to Truman on Sunday afternoon at the Washburn Softball Complex. Washburn finishes the season with a 13-33 overall record going 9-19 in MIAA play.
Truman scored four runs in the top of the second when Laura Miller drove in two runs with a single. Truman then added another run taking advantage of a Washburn error to add another run and then added one more on a bases loaded walk. Neither team would score again until the Bulldogs added three in the sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Washburn came back with two more in the sixth inning.
Alex Zordel hit her eighth home run of the season and her 29th of her career in her final game at Washburn.
Amanda Kirkhart singled up the middle to score
Lauren Thimmesch who walked earlier in the inning.
The Bulldogs added five more runs in the top of the seventh with a pair of two-run homers to go up 12-2.
Washburn came back with two more in the bottom of the seventh.
Deidra Jones doubled down the line scoring
Tori Gloudeman who doubled to right center and then later scored on Zordel's double down the left field line but it wouldn't be enough as the Lady Blues left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.
Zordel finished with two hits as did
Shelby Erickson. Zordel also drove in two with a walk.
Marina Quimby gave up eight earned runs picking up the loss in the circle.
