JOPLIN, Mo. - The Ichabods suffered a pair of losses as they were swept in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Missouri Southern. The Lions took the opener 4-1 and the second game 9-2.
Washburn fell to 6-22 overall and 6-21 in the MIAA. The two teams will wrap up the series Sunday with a 1 p.m. single game.
John Stoothoff went 2 for 3 in the opener and 4 for 7 in the two games.
Parker Gibson was 3 for 6 in the two games. The each tripled and scored a run in the second game.
Corey Gragg scored Washburn's only run in the first game. He led off the third with a double and moved to third on a bunt single and then scored on a sacrifice from from
Connor Crimmins.
Gibson tripled in the third inning of the second game then scored on a double from
Taylor Herrington. Stoothoff then tripled to start the fourth inning and scored on a groundout by
Dakota Kell.
Washburn gave up a five-run second inning and then a four-run fifth in the second game.
Drew Ridley started on the mound and gave up the first nine runs through 3 1/3 innings to fall to 1-4.
Mark Biesma went the distance in the first game and took the loss. He allowed four runs, two earned, off seven hits. He fell to 1-3.
