FORT SMITH, Ark. -- The Ichabods came back from a 2-1 deficit Saturday morning against Harding and went on to a 3-2 (25-14, 19-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-12) win in the Arkansas-Fort Smith MaryBeth Sudduth Invitational.
No. 11 Washburn (9-3) will finish action for the weekend with a 6 p.m. match Saturday against the host Lions.
Marissa Cox had 24 kills with a .413 attack percentage. Corrine Stringer hit .318 and had 11 kills.
Makayla Maxwell had six blocks and
Sarah Vicory had four.
The fifth set was tied 10-10 before Washburn scored five of the last seven points to win.
Abby Wittman dumped a ball over and scored a kill on a Harding block error for the 11th point and Cox had two straight kills to make it 13-10. Cox had another kill after a Bison point to get Washburn to match point.
Harding won the serve back but sent the ball into the net to give the Ichabods the win in their fourth five-set match of the year.
Washburn had to come back in the fourth set to get to the fifth. The Ichabods trailed 22-20 before scoring fourth straight points to get to set point. The last three of those points came on Washburn blocks with Maxwell getting a hand up on all three of them. Cox teamed with Maxwell on two of them.
The Bison then got within a point at 24-23 but Cox set down the final point of the set.
After a 12-12 tie in the first set, the Ichabods finished the set on a 13-2 run. Harding answered with a win in the second set that featured 13 ties and seven lead changes. The Bison broke a 17-17 tied with a 5-0 run.
Harding led the entire third set after a 2-1 Washburn start.
Wittman finished with 52 assists at setter and
Kelsey Lewis had 20 digs at libero. Wittman and
Sami McHenry each had 17 with McHenry setting a career high.
Washburn hit .193 as a team while Harding had a .216 percentage. Washburn led in blocks 10-7 and each team had six aces.
